The short version
Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27 and Cyber Monday on November 30; the work that decides the weekend is done weeks before it: discounts built and checked, stock behaviour set per product, and the sale scheduled to start and stop by itself.
On the Basic plan and up, a Rollouts Event publishes your BFCM changes for a set period and rolls them back at its end date; on Plus, Launchpad schedules the event and removes its sale prices when it ends.
Keep the offer within 25 active automatic discounts, app-based ones included, and switch holiday return rules before the first BFCM order, because rule changes apply only to future orders.
As of October 2026, USPS recommends sending USPS Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail by December 17 for delivery before December 25 within the 48 contiguous states.
Black Friday Cyber Monday is the weekend when settings you rarely think about decide how much of each order you keep: a discount that stacks when it shouldn't, a product that keeps selling past its stock, a return window changed a day too late. Shopify's own advice is to start early, and the order of the work matters as much as the start date, because several of these settings act only on what happens after you save them.
This checklist is written for a merchant with four to six weeks to go. It runs in windows, from six weeks out to the week after, and every step names the Shopify setting behind it and the limit that bites. The calendar for this year sits in its own block lower down: jump to the BFCM 2026 dates or to the holiday shipping deadlines for 2026.
The BFCM Countdown: What to Finish in Each Window
Key takeaway
How early is early? Shopify answers that in a single line of its own BFCM checklist, and the answer is earlier than most stores begin:
Start preparing for BFCM by early fall, or the beginning of November at the latest.
Shopify's BFCM checklist splits the season into three phases — preparation, execution and follow-up — and runs to 25 steps in seven blocks, many of them marketing ideas; the six windows below keep to the settings you change in your admin. The order matters: return rules apply only to orders placed after you change them.

Choose what goes on sale, build the sale collection, and decide for every sale product whether it stops selling, keeps selling or takes pre-orders when stock runs out.
Before you tick this off
- Sale collection built as a smart collection on the condition Compare at price is set
- Every sale product set on purpose to stop selling, continue selling or take pre-orders at zero
- Pre-order app chosen if you will sell stock you do not have yet (Shopify Payments or PayPal Express only)
Create the automatic discounts and codes, set their combinations deliberately, and confirm the plan stays within 25 active automatic discounts, app-based ones included.
Before you tick this off
- Active automatic discounts counted, app-based ones included
- Combination settings chosen on purpose for every discount
- Usage limits set on any code that is meant to run out
- Compare-at prices checked against the former-price standards where you sell
Put the BFCM changes into a Rollouts Event with an end date (Basic and up) or a Launchpad event (Plus), and change return rules now, because they apply only to future orders.
Before you tick this off
- Store time zone in Settings > General checked against the start and end times
- Event end date set, so the sale rolls back by itself
- On Plus: discount codes reviewed before the event, since Launchpad can't deactivate them and they apply on top of sale prices
- Holiday return window saved before the first BFCM order arrives
Duplicate the live theme, remove apps and scripts you no longer use, test every discount in a real checkout, turn on abandoned checkout emails, and publish a last order date for holiday delivery based on carrier cutoffs.
Before you tick this off
- A Copy Of the live theme sits in your theme library
- Test order sent both the confirmation and the shipping notification email
- Each discount and allowed combination tested in a real checkout
- Abandoned checkout emails by Shopify turned on
- Holiday delivery cutoff published, with your handling time subtracted from the carrier date
Keep Live View and the Shopify Status page open, watch sold-out products and limited codes, and hold theme changes until the sale is over.
Before you tick this off
- Live View open during the peak hours
- Someone named to decide if an app, a carrier or the theme fails
- No edits to the live theme until the sale ends
Handle returns under the rules you set beforehand, keep abandoned checkout emails running, and compare session-based numbers with last year only after checking for measurement changes.
Before you tick this off
- Abandoned checkout emails by Shopify still running
- Results read in orders and sales before sessions
- What worked and what didn't written down for next year's checklist
If you set stores up for clients, Shopify Academy's short partner tip covers the stock side of the first window — forecasts and ABC analysis — along with shipping and holiday email. It was published in September 2024, so take the approach from it and the current limits from this page.
Set Up the Offer: Discount Type, Limits and a Test Cart
Key takeaway
The offer is where a BFCM mistake costs the most per order, because a discount that stacks by accident repeats on every checkout until somebody notices. Most of the work is a handful of decisions made once, in the right order.
Automatic discount or code?
Key takeaway
Shopify's checklist puts the difference in one sentence: automatic discounts apply at checkout without a code, while discount codes require customers to enter a code. A sitewide percentage that every visitor should see belongs in an automatic discount; an offer for your email list, or one you want to cap, is a code.
Before either, give the sale a home. The same checklist suggests a smart collection under Products > Collections with the condition Compare-at price is not empty. In the admin, that is the Compare at price condition with the operator is set; by Shopify's smart collection conditions, it matches a product only when all of its variants have a compare-at price value, so a product you mark down on every variant joins the sale collection by itself.
The limits a BFCM offer runs into
Key takeaway
These are the store-wide ceilings in Shopify's discount limits, discount code considerations and the other pages named under the table, with what each means for a sale weekend:
Shopify discount limits that matter on a sale weekend
| Limit | Value | What it means for a BFCM offer |
|---|---|---|
| Active automatic discounts | 25 per store, app-based discounts included | Count the discounts your apps create before you add another automatic offer |
| Codes on one order | 5 product or order codes, plus 1 shipping code | Code-on-code offers stop at five, and only between discounts you mark as combinable |
| Unique codes per store | 20,000,000 | Single-use code campaigns draw on one store-wide total; at the limit, you can delete discount codes to create new ones |
| Specific items on one code | Up to 100 customers, products and variants | A large sale assortment is easier to target through a collection than through item lists |
| Customer segments on an automatic discount | Up to 5 segments | A tiered VIP offer can address five segments with one discount |
| Importing codes | No CSV import; export only | Bulk code lists come through an app or the Admin API, which adds up to 250 codes per call |
Shopify Help Center pages on discount combinations, discount codes, managing and exporting discounts, read October 13, 2026. The 250-code figure applies to the Admin GraphQL API, not the admin screens.
Stacking is governed separately. Shopify lists six types of discount combinations; two of them — product with order discounts, and order with order discounts — need a store that meets eligibility requirements, and stacking two product discounts on the same line item needs Shopify Plus.
When discounts in one cart can't combine, Shopify always applies the best discount for the customer's cart, and combinations aren't available at all on checkouts in Facebook, Instagram, Google or other external platforms. Our guide to combining and stacking Shopify discounts walks through the margin side of each combination.
Test every discount in a real checkout
Key takeaway
Shopify's checklist asks you to test your discount codes and automatic discounts to confirm they apply correctly during checkout. Run these checks with a real cart:
- Each code and each automatic discount on its own, on a product inside the sale and on one outside it.
- The combinations you allowed — and one you did not, to see the best discount win.
- Usage limits. Set them in the Maximum discount uses section. Shopify holds a code against its limit from the moment an order is submitted until the payment completes or fails, so the count can include orders still being paid.
- Times. Start and end times follow the time zone selected in your Shopify admin, and a discount with an end date expires at that end time, as the discounts FAQ states.
Before you show a “was” price
Key takeaway
The sale collection above runs on compare-at prices, and in a sale a compare-at price stops being a field and becomes a statement: this used to cost more. Two regimes set the bar for that statement.
United States. The FTC's pricing guides in 16 CFR Part 233 say a former price is a legitimate basis for a price comparison when it is the actual, bona fide price at which the article was offered to the public on a regular basis for a reasonably substantial period of time. They name no number of days.
European Union. Under Article 6a of the Price Indication Directive, any announcement of a price reduction to consumers must show the prior price: the lowest price you applied in a period of not less than 30 days before the reduction. Member states implement it, so check your own.
A countdown timer is the other BFCM habit worth a second look. A September 2022 FTC staff report on dark patterns describes a fake countdown clock that pressures shoppers to buy and then simply resets or goes away when it times out. The report is staff guidance rather than a rule, but it shows how a regulator reads a timer with no real deadline behind it.
Schedule the Sale to Start and Stop on Its Own
Key takeaway
A sale often goes wrong in the hour after it: the banner still up, the discount still live, the sale theme still published on Tuesday morning. Two of Shopify's tools take that off someone's alarm clock, and your plan decides which of them you can use.
On Basic and up: a Rollouts Event
Key takeaway
A rollout is a scheduled set of changes to your online store's main theme, its checkout and accounts pages, discounts, product catalogs, or a combination of them, and rollouts are available on the Basic plan or higher. Of the three rollout types — Launch, Event and Experiment — the Event is the one built for a sale: it publishes your changes for a set period and then rolls them back when the rollout ends.
Rollouts as a whole, including the A/B experiments that start on Grow, are covered in our guide to what a Shopify rollout is.
Shopify's release note for Rollouts names the sale use case directly:
Set an end date for limited-time events like flash sales and your store automatically reverts when the promotion ends.
What goes into one BFCM Event, and the rules around it, from Shopify's rollout requirements and considerations:
- Four kinds of change. One change to the main theme, one to checkout and accounts, one or more catalog changes, and one discount change, which can carry up to 250 discounts.
- One rollout per discount. A discount can be part of only one unended rollout at a time, and it keeps its own active dates, which go on applying independently of the rollout — so line up each discount's own dates with the Event's.
- Prices through catalogs. A rollout schedules a price change by setting a catalog you prepared to Active and back; it changes only the catalog's status, and edits to the catalog's prices save straight away and apply whenever the catalog is active.
- Time zone. Start and end follow your store's time zone in Settings > General.
- What it can't touch. A rollout can't change Liquid templates and can't be applied to vintage themes. To publish a different theme while another unended rollout changes your live theme, archive that rollout first; archiving can't be undone and permanently deletes that rollout's theme changes, and you can't archive a rollout that is still active — pause or end it first.
- After the Event. When catalog changes published to every visitor roll back, Shopify POS and your product feeds return on their next sync.
- One market only. Targeting a specific market is available on Advanced and Plus, according to Shopify's March 31, 2026 release note.
On Plus: Launchpad
Key takeaway
On Shopify Plus, the Launchpad app automates the to-do list of an event: changing prices when the sale starts and ends, publishing products to sales channels, adding inventory at the start, scheduling theme customizations, showing a password page, and collecting data on how the event did. Shopify's help page still lists scheduling line item and shipping scripts too, but Shopify Scripts stopped executing on June 30, 2026, so that item no longer does anything.
The considerations and what happens when an event ends hold the rules that trip up a BFCM event:
- No overlaps. Events can't run or be scheduled to overlap, and each must begin at least five minutes after the previous one ends — leave that gap between a Black Friday event and a Cyber Monday event.
- Collections up to 1,000 products. Check that no collection you add to an event holds more than 1000 products.
- Discount codes stay live. Launchpad can't deactivate discount codes, and a code applies on top of the event's sale price. Shopify's page offers deactivating codes manually for the event and reactivating them afterwards, and says this is usually not recommended for Plus stores, particularly those with a lot of discount codes.
- What ends and what stays. When the event ends, the sales and discounts it applied to your products or collections disappear from all sales channels; inventory it added is not reduced, and products it released stay published.
- Locked once live. After an event begins, only its end date and time can change.
- Gift cards and passwords. A gift card can't be sold below its value through Launchpad, and a password page switched on from Launchpad can override your store's settings.
As of October 2026, Launchpad's App Store listing is live, developed by Shopify, and notes that it is only available to Shopify Plus customers.
Which scheduler fits your plan
Key takeaway
Four ways to time a BFCM sale on Shopify
| Tool | Plan | What it schedules | Rolls back by itself? | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rollouts Event | Basic and higher | Main theme, checkout and accounts, discounts (up to 250), catalogs | Yes, at the end date the Event requires | No Liquid template changes, no vintage themes; a discount sits in only one unended rollout |
| Launchpad | Shopify Plus only | Prices at start and end, product releases, inventory, theme customizations, password page | The sale prices and discounts it applied, yes; added inventory and released products, no | Leaves discount codes active; events can't overlap and need a five-minute gap |
| A discount's own start and end dates | Part of the discount itself | That one discount | The discount expires at its end date and time | Times follow the time zone selected in your admin |
| Flow, Scheduled time trigger | Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus (free app) | A workflow at a set date and time, once or repeating | Only what the workflow itself does | Repeating workflows run no more often than every 10 minutes |
Shopify Help Center pages on Rollouts, Launchpad, discounts and Shopify Flow, read October 13, 2026. The highlighted row is the native route for stores on Basic, Grow and Advanced.
A discount's own dates are enough when the sale is a single offer with nothing else to switch, and a Flow scheduled workflow fits a task around the sale — tagging, a notification, a report — rather than the sale itself.
Sell Only What You Can Ship
Key takeaway
Overselling and late delivery are the same mistake seen twice: an order taken for goods you can't put in a box on time. Shopify's stock settings decide the first half, and the US mail order rule governs the second.
When a product sells out
Key takeaway
Shopify treats an item as out of stock when inventory is tracked and the level is at zero or below, and by default customers can't buy it until you add stock. That default is the setting most BFCM sales should keep. The three ways a product can behave when it reaches zero:
What happens at zero stock
| Setting | What the buyer sees | When it fits a BFCM sale | Catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stop selling when out of stock (default) | The item can't be bought until you add stock | Limited stock, doorbusters, anything you can't reorder in time | Online sales stop at zero, including on the busiest hour |
| Continue selling when out of stock | The item can still be bought at zero or below | Products you can restock quickly and ship within the time you promise | Works only with Inventory tracked turned on; the setting doesn't apply to Shopify POS, where staff can still sell at zero and below |
| Pre-orders through an app | Buys now for later delivery, paying in full, partly or nothing up front | Products not yet in stock that arrive on a date you can name | Needs a pre-order app; available only with Shopify Payments or PayPal Express |
Shopify Help Center, selling when out of stock and pre-orders, read October 13, 2026.
If you hold stock in more than one place, check which locations fulfil online orders. When a location that fulfils online orders is at zero and the stock sits at a location that doesn't, Shopify still shows the item as out of stock on your online store. Our guide to running inventory across several locations covers that setup.
Two smaller levers. Shopify's checklist suggests hiding out-of-stock products so customers don't order items you can't fulfil. And Shopify's Winter '26 Edition announced flash sales without overselling using inventory from multiple locations, while its Spring '26 Edition made back-in-stock updates reach the online store faster during high-traffic events.
Selling ahead of stock is a pre-order. Shopify's pre-order help says that to use pre-orders you install a pre-order app from the Shopify App Store and manage the orders in your admin, and that pre-orders are currently available only to merchants using Shopify Payments or PayPal Express. Comparing those apps is the job of our guide to choosing a pre-order app.
Promise only the delivery you can keep
Key takeaway
Turning a carrier's date into your own is arithmetic only you can do. Our rule of thumb: take the carrier's recommended send-by date for the service you use, subtract your own picking and packing time and any days your warehouse is closed, and publish the result as your last order date for holiday delivery. This year's carrier dates are in the holiday shipping deadlines section below.
Under the FTC's Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule (16 CFR Part 435), a US seller needs a reasonable basis to expect it can ship within the time it states, or within 30 days of a properly completed order when it states none. The rule covers orders placed by mail, online or by phone; under 16 CFR 435.3 it does not apply to orders of seeds and growing plants, collect-on-delivery orders, subscriptions ordered for serial delivery once the initial shipment has been made in compliance with the rule, or transactions governed by the FTC's rule on prenotification negative option plans.
When you can't make it, the rule requires you to offer the buyer, clearly and without being asked, the option to consent to the delay or to cancel the order for a prompt refund. If the new date is more than 30 days past the original one, or you can't give a date at all, the notice must also tell the buyer the order will be treated as cancelled unless you ship within 30 days of the original time or the buyer agrees to the delay within that period.
If holiday orders change what you charge for shipping — heavier boxes, faster services, a free-shipping threshold for the sale — our guide to Shopify shipping rates covers flat, calculated and free-shipping setups.
Keep Checkout Fast and Protected
Key takeaway
Checkout carries two jobs on a peak weekend: letting a real shopper pay in as few clicks as possible, and keeping out the traffic that isn't a shopper.
Accelerated checkouts
Shopify's checklist singles out Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay because they speed up checkout by autofilling saved information and cutting the clicks needed to complete a purchase. A buyer saves payment details to Shop Pay by entering an email address at checkout. Which of the three to switch on, and what each needs, is compared in our guide to which wallets to enable.
Bots, fraud and what each plan gets
Key takeaway
Shopify's bot help page is explicit that the base layer needs nothing from you, and that the extra checkout layer for sales is a Plus feature. What bot traffic does to your reports, rather than to your checkout, is covered in our guide to Shopify bot traffic.
Checkout and order protection by plan
| Protection | Who gets it | What it does | What it doesn't |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare WAF and DDoS protection | Every store | Always active, with no action needed from you | Extra checkout protection during sales is a separate, Plus-only feature |
| hCaptcha | Every store, on by default | Screens store forms and account pages: contact, newsletter, comments, login, account creation, password recovery | Listed for store forms and account pages only; incompatible with custom code or apps that add their own CAPTCHA |
| Checkout bot protection | Shopify Plus only, after Shopify Plus Support activates it | Blocks known bots and slows bot activity at checkout during a flash sale, in events of up to 60 minutes | Isn't meant to combat fraud related to bot activity |
| Fraud indicators | Basic plan or higher | Shows fraud indicators on orders and supports third-party fraud prevention apps | Gives no recommendation by itself |
| Fraud recommendations | Grow plan or higher, or any plan using Shopify Payments | A recommendation on each eligible order | None on test, free, fully gift-card-paid, POS, B2B or subscription renewal orders |
Shopify Help Center pages on bots, bot protection, online store preferences and fraud analysis, read October 13, 2026.
The checkout bot protection event is a fairness control for scarce products, not a fraud filter. Bot protection is available in your Shopify admin only after it has been activated — to activate it, contact Shopify Plus Support — and only one bot protection event can be scheduled at a time. Fraud review is the layer for orders that do get through: indicators reach Basic, and recommendations need Grow or higher, or Shopify Payments. The full ladder is in our guide to which stores get a fraud recommendation.
Shopify does not cover charge reversals from banks, so a disputed BFCM order is yours to answer; our chargebacks guide covers the evidence and the deadlines. On Shopify Payments, Shopify's Spring '26 Edition describes improved machine-learning models that block card-testing attacks.
Test the Store Before the Traffic Arrives
Key takeaway
The pre-sale test is about the parts of the store you own. The platform side is short to describe and not yours to fix.
What Shopify covers and what it doesn't
Key takeaway
Shopify provides unlimited bandwidth to all merchants on any plan, and its Help Center reports 99.9% uptime across all major services and regions for the past 90 days. Shopify's Plus pricing page adds a 99.99% figure, captioned as an average across Shopify worldwide during the biggest sales events of the year. The platform side of a traffic peak is covered in how a Shopify store works.
Shopify's uptime calculations don't include downtime attributed to:
- third-party services;
- errors in theme customizations;
- errors in public or custom apps;
- scheduled maintenance;
- force majeure.
That list is the brief for the next three steps. Shopify's checklist adds the first of them: review the apps and scripts installed on your site and remove any that aren't actively used, to reduce page load time.
Back up and preview the theme
Key takeaway
Shopify suggests making a backup copy before you customize a theme, so you can discard your changes and start again. The duplicate is named Copy Of plus the original theme's name; if your store has reached its plan's theme limit — 20 themes on Basic, Grow and Advanced, 100 on Shopify Plus — remove one first. Shopify also explicitly allows keeping seasonal versions of your published theme, which is what a BFCM theme is.
Preview before you publish. A merchant preview requires admin login and reaches the checkout; a visitor preview link expires two days after it is created, and you can't share a preview of the theme that is already published. If Preview sends you to your live theme instead, Shopify's theme help says that is almost always Cloudflare caching.
When you publish the BFCM theme, the previous one moves to Draft themes — your way back after the weekend.
Our recommendation, not a Shopify rule: once the BFCM theme is published and tested, stop editing the live theme until the sale is over, and make any urgent change on a copy first.
Place a test order
Shopify's checklist asks for a test order that confirms both your order confirmation and shipping notification emails are sent correctly, and for a contingency plan covering site outages, backup systems and shipping delays, prepared before BFCM begins. Write down who decides, and how, if a carrier slips or an app fails on Saturday.
Watch the weekend live
Key takeaway
For the weekend itself, Shopify points to one screen. Live View gives stores on the Online Store channel a real-time view of the activity on the store, starting with the number of visitors active in the past five minutes, and Shopify names the season it suits best:
It's especially useful during high traffic periods, such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday (BFCM), and when you want to observe the immediate results of your recent marketing activity, discounts, or other promotions.
Two things to know. Shopify's session measurement update, rolled out September 21–23, 2026, says the Home page and Live View display session data without the Human or bot session filter that some reports let you adjust: on these surfaces, identified bot sessions are filtered out and that can't be changed. And the Shopify Status page tracks components such as Checkout, Storefront and Admin, but notes that some issues affecting a small percentage of stores may not be reflected there.
If you run timed drops inside the weekend, Shopify's Winter '26 Edition added analytics filters that show data down to the minute. Live View and the reports behind it are covered in our Shopify analytics guide.
Returns Before the First Order, Recovery and Numbers After
Key takeaway
Shopify's checklist ends with a review of what worked and what didn't. The setting that decides how the returns part of that review goes is saved weeks earlier.
Set holiday return rules before BFCM
Key takeaway
Return rules carry a trap with a date on it: Shopify's return rules page states that changes apply only to future orders. A longer holiday window saved after the weekend does nothing for the orders taken during it. The settings to decide before the sale:
- Return window: 14 days, 30 days, 90 days, Unlimited, or a custom number of days.
- Start: from each item's delivery date, or from delivery of the last item in the order.
- Overrides: a custom window for specific collections, products or variants; where an item falls under several overrides, the shortest window applies.
- Final sale: products or collections that can't be returned or cancelled; bundles can't be set as final sale.
- Markets: additional rules for specific markets, so customers in different markets can have different conditions — an early access feature that Shopify says is available only to certain merchants.
- EU customers: Shopify says to set a window of at least 14 days and start it from delivery of the last item in the order.
The setting with "holidays" in its name is not a seasonal window: Extend to account for weekends or holidays only extends a window whose last day lands on a weekend or holiday. The return rules and self-serve returns pages we read on October 13, 2026 describe no rule tied to the date an order was placed, so the practical route to a longer holiday window is a longer default window, or an override on the collections you discount, set before the sale.
Set the window as a configured value, not only as policy text: without one, your return policy details aren't displayed on Shop app product pages. The rest of the setup — self-serve requests and cancellation windows — is in our guide to the dials inside return rules.
Recover checkouts and review the results
Key takeaway
BFCM fills carts that never reach payment. Shopify's checklist points to its own automation: in your admin, go to Apps > Messaging > Automations and turn on Abandoned checkout emails by Shopify. Which recovery route fits your store, and what each costs, starts with what Shopify sends natively.
Then track how your BFCM marketing translated into visits and sales in Shopify's analytics, as its checklist asks. Read orders and sales before sessions, and read the comparison note below before you set this year against last.
BFCM 2026: The Dates and What the 2025 Weekend Showed
Key takeaway
Shopify defines Black Friday as the Friday after Thanksgiving and dates Cyber Monday 2026 to November 30. The US federal holiday calendar puts Thanksgiving 2026 on Thursday, November 26, so Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27 and the sale weekend runs from November 27 to November 30.
Shopify's BFCM hub still showed its 2025 Live Globe as of October 13, 2026, so last year's results remain the latest official numbers. Four of them point to a decision:
Source: Shopify Newsroom, BFCM 2025 data. Shopify notes that all data presented is approximate and based on various assumptions.
- The peak is an hour, not a day. Shopping peaked at 12:01 p.m. EST on Black Friday, when sales across Shopify reached $5.1 million per minute — the hour to have Live View open and nobody editing the theme.
- Shop Pay carried 32% of orders. That share of BFCM 2025 orders is the case for turning on the accelerated checkouts above.
- Cross-border is a real share. Cross-border orders made up 16% of all global orders, which is why the international cutoffs below and the return conditions you set for customers abroad matter.
Comparing this year with last
Key takeaway
Because of Shopify's September 2026 session measurement update, session counts and conversion rates for BFCM 2026 don't line up one-to-one with BFCM 2025.
Bot classification applies only to sessions from October 7, 2025 onward: last year's BFCM weekend falls inside the classified period, but a look-back that reaches into early autumn 2025 mixes classified and unclassified sessions.
Holiday Shipping Deadlines 2026: USPS, FedEx, UPS and Canada Post
Key takeaway
These are the carriers' recommended send-by dates for the holidays, not guarantees: delivery still depends on where a parcel starts, where it goes and when it is accepted. Our rule of thumb for your own last order date: take the carrier's send-by date for your service and subtract your picking, packing and warehouse-closed days — the legal side is in Promise only the delivery you can keep.
USPS holiday shipping deadlines 2026
Key takeaway
USPS publishes recommended domestic, international and military deadlines for Christmas delivery. The domestic table:
USPS recommended send-by dates for delivery before December 25, 2026
| USPS service | 48 contiguous states | Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and territories |
|---|---|---|
| USPS Ground Advantage | Thursday, December 17 | Wednesday, December 16 |
| First-Class Mail | Thursday, December 17 | Thursday, December 17 |
| Priority Mail | Friday, December 18 | Friday, December 18 |
| Priority Mail Express | Saturday, December 19 | Saturday, December 19 |
USPS 2026 Holiday Shipping Deadlines, read October 13, 2026. Recommended dates, not guaranteed; delivery depends on origin, destination and acceptance time.
The international and military dates come much earlier:
- Canada and the Caribbean: Wednesday, December 9 for First-Class Package International and Priority Mail International.
- APO/FPO/DPO AE ZIPs 090–092: the recommended deadline for USPS Ground Advantage is Wednesday, November 4 — before Black Friday. That date falls before the two-weeks-out window in the countdown above, so a store that ships to those addresses publishes that cutoff first. First-Class and Priority dates for the same ZIPs are December 9.
- December 16: Priority Mail Express International to Canada and the Caribbean, and Priority Mail Express Military.
Prices move too. USPS filed temporary holiday prices for domestic competitive parcels — Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage and Parcel Select — and its Postal Explorer price page lists the time-limited change as starting October 4, 2026. Check the label price in your admin rather than an old rate card.
FedEx holiday shipping deadlines 2026
Key takeaway
FedEx frames its 2026 last-day-to-ship dates around arrival by December 24, 2026. Its table for shipments from the US to Canada lists:
- Wednesday, December 23: FedEx International Next Flight, International First and International Priority.
- Tuesday, December 22: FedEx International Priority Distribution.
- Monday, December 21: FedEx International Economy and International Connect Plus.
For domestic FedEx Ground, Home Delivery and Express services, read the date for your service and transit time in FedEx's PDF itself before you publish a cutoff.
UPS holiday shipping deadlines 2026
Key takeaway
UPS publishes its dates as a one-page PDF, the 2026 Year-End Holiday Schedule, linked from the UPS holiday shipping schedule page. The schedule lists recommended last days to ship for delivery on December 24, 2026, and says its contents are subject to change:

Canada Post holiday shipping 2026
Key takeaway
If you ship from Canada, Canada Post's holiday sending guidelines give dates by service and zone for parcels between major centres:
Canada Post holiday sending dates within Canada
| Canada Post service | Local zone | Regional zone | National zone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Priority | December 23 | December 23 | December 23 |
| Xpresspost | December 23 | December 22 | December 22 |
| Expedited Parcel or flat rate box | December 22 | December 18 | December 14 |
| Regular Parcel | December 21 | December 16 | December 10 |
Canada Post holiday sending guidelines, page dated October 2026, read October 13, 2026. The table itself names no year; dates depend on origin and destination.
For parcels from Canada to the US, the guidelines give December 17 for Xpresspost USA, December 14 for Expedited Parcel USA, and December 11 for Tracked Packet USA and Small Packet USA. The page dates itself October 2026 but its tables name no year, so recheck it before you publish a cutoff.
The Bottom Line
Key takeaway
Most of what goes wrong on a BFCM weekend was decided weeks before it, in settings that are easy to change and easy to forget: a combination setting, an inventory flag, a return window that applies only to future orders, an end date nobody set.
