Do Horizon and Dawn include a countdown timer block?

Not in anything we read. On October 24, 2026, the Horizon and Dawn code Shopify publishes on GitHub had no countdown block or timer section, and neither theme's Theme Store page lists a Countdown timer feature; both list a promo banner instead.

The Shopify Theme Store filters by Countdown timer, and Impulse and Motion list it. Our Horizon guide compares what paid themes add over Horizon.

How do you add a countdown timer as an app block?

  1. Check your theme. In the theme editor, click Add block in your product page section and look for a countdown block.
  2. Install an app from the App Store's Countdown timer category whose listing says it works with your theme. Every listing we opened there on October 24, 2026 was from a third-party developer, not Shopify.
  3. Add its block. Once installed, its block appears under Apps in the block picker of a section that supports app blocks.

Steps 1 and 3: Add block opens this picker; app blocks sit under the Apps tab.

How do you end the sale on a real date?

A discount's sale price stops when the discount ends. On a discount code or automatic discount, click Set end date and match it to the timer. Without an end date the discount doesn't expire. Times follow your admin's time zone.

Shopify's help places the button under Active dates; on October 25, 2026 our development store showed it in a card named Schedule.

Set end date sits beside the start date, here in a card named Schedule.

For the sale's banners and sections, a Rollout Event, on the Basic plan or higher, publishes theme changes for a set period and rolls them back at its required end date. No Rollouts page we read on October 24, 2026 describes a countdown shown to shoppers. Our BFCM checklist sets up an Event.

A discount inside a rollout keeps its own dates

Per Shopify's rollout requirements, after the Event ends the discount is active whenever its own dates apply.

A square PNG is the safe choice: Horizon and Dawn tag the favicon as PNG, and Google's favicon list includes PNG but not SVG.
