The short version
Add a sales channel from Settings > Sales channels, and decide first which products it should get, because every product you already have becomes available to a new channel automatically.
Whether a channel opens to you depends on your country, plan and products: TikTok Shop takes stores in ten countries, and Shop needs Starter or higher with Shopify Payments.
A product reaches a channel only when both it and its variant are published there, and the channel can still refuse it in its own review.
Uninstalling the Shop channel doesn't take eligible products off Shop.
The Quick Verdict
Find your situation; the conditions behind each answer are in the requirements section.
Which channels to look at first
| Your situation | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| US store with an online store, selling physical products | Facebook & Instagram, Google & YouTube, TikTok Shop | All three accept a US store with an online store (for Facebook & Instagram, Shopify and Meta state different plan requirements; see below), and Shop and agentic storefronts may already be on, since both switch on by themselves for eligible stores |
| Store in the UK, Spain, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Japan or Brazil | TikTok Shop, plus Google & YouTube if you ship to a country Google supports and sell in a matching currency, and Facebook & Instagram if Meta lists your country | These are the other countries on TikTok Shop's list of store locations; the seller rules we read in TikTok's guide are for the US, so confirm your market's rules with TikTok |
| Store in any other country | Google & YouTube if you ship to a country Google supports and sell in a matching currency, or Facebook & Instagram if Meta lists your country; not TikTok Shop | TikTok Shop needs the store located in one of its ten countries; Google checks your shipping country and currency |
| You sell digital products only | Not Facebook & Instagram | The Facebook & Instagram channel accepts a product only if it requires shipping |
| Already selling on Amazon, eBay, Walmart or Target Plus | Shopify Marketplace Connect | One channel connects all four, with Walmart and Target Plus for the US only |
Adding a sales channel is a short install; what decides whether it helps you happens around it. The moment you install one, every product you already have becomes available to it, and the channel then applies its own rules to what you send.
This guide covers the four moves around that install: checking whether your store qualifies, adding the channel, publishing products to it, and removing it.
What Is a Sales Channel in Shopify?
Key takeaway
In Shopify's own terms, connecting sales channels to your store lets you manage your products, orders and more from your Shopify admin, and you can use a single channel or several. Every channel follows the same pattern: you add it, you decide which products it gets, and the channel then applies its own rules to what you send it. The sections below follow that order.
One detail confuses merchants the first time. Many channels come from the Shopify App Store, yet they never appear on your Apps page afterwards:
Although some sales channels are installed through the Shopify App Store, they're displayed in your Shopify admin as Sales channels and not as Apps.
Where channels live in your admin
Once installed, a channel appears under Sales channels in the navigation sidebar of your admin in a web browser. Settings > Sales channels lists the channels you've added, and it's where you add more.
What the channel decides on its own
Key takeaway
Publishing a product to a channel puts it under a second set of rules. Three things follow from that:
- Listing and shipping rules. Some sales channels require or prohibit certain information in your product listings, and some require you to ship orders within a specific timeframe.
- Support. If you need help with a third-party sales channel, Shopify's Help Center tells you to contact the app developer directly.
- Refusals. Each channel can refuse a published product; see where each channel shows its verdict.
Which Sales Channels Can You Add?
Key takeaway
Shopify's sales channels overview doesn't give one long list. It sorts channels by type, saying that adding sales channels lets you meet shoppers where they're already browsing. The table follows that grouping: the middle column names the channels each Help Center section lists, and the third-party row gives one example from the Shopify App Store.
Channel types in Shopify's Help Center
| Type | Channels the Help Center names | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Your own storefronts | Online Store, Point of Sale | Your own website and in-person selling; the Help Center covers both in their own sections, outside the sales channels overview |
| Shop | Shop | Sell through Shop to its shoppers; the channel is added to your admin automatically once your store meets the Shop Merchant Guidelines |
| Social commerce | Facebook and Instagram by Meta, TikTok Shop, Roblox | Sell directly on social media platforms and in immersive social gaming experiences |
| Marketplaces | Google & YouTube, Shopify Marketplace Connect, Faire, Whatnot, Temu, DoorDash, StockX, Newegg | List and sell on third-party platforms that can already have large numbers of customers shopping on them |
| Marketplace Connect | Amazon, eBay, Walmart (US), Target Plus (US) | One channel for four marketplaces; new connections to Etsy can't be made at this time |
| Agentic storefronts | ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Meta | Customers discover and buy your products in AI channels, with nothing to install; see where products show up in each AI channel |
| Shopify Collective | Shopify Collective | Connect with other Shopify stores and sell each other's products; compare it with dropshipping apps |
| Your other websites | Buy Button, Sell on WordPress | Sell on your non-Shopify website or blog, or connect your Shopify business to a WordPress site through the Shopify plugin; see how the Buy Button is set up |
| Third-party channels | Pinterest, for example (listed in the Shopify App Store's sales channels category, not in the Help Center) | Built by other companies, installed from the Shopify App Store and shown under Sales channels; Pinterest is not in the social commerce section, and our Pinterest guide covers it |

Can Your Store Use the Channel? Requirements by Channel
Key takeaway
Shopify's features-on-all-plans page ties eligibility for each sales channel to your plan as well as other requirements. No Help Center page we have found sets a number of channels per plan (see the search boundary at the end of the removal section); what varies is each channel's own entry conditions.
Where to check: a channel your store can't use shows as Unavailable in your admin. For Shop, after you change your store to meet the requirements, the approval status can take up to 48 hours to update.
Entry conditions by channel
| Channel | Conditions | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Online Store |
| Shop, Facebook & Instagram, Google & YouTube and TikTok Shop each require an online store, and Shop, Facebook & Instagram and Google & YouTube don't accept a store in private mode |
| ShopRequirements in plain terms: our Shop channel guide |
| Prohibited categories include age-restricted products, weapons and digital currencies, among others, and Shopify says the requirements can change without notice |
| Facebook & Instagram by MetaCountry lists and setup: our Instagram selling guide |
| Collections sync only for stores based in the United States, and Meta is no longer a marketplace tax facilitator for new orders created as of August 26, 2025 |
| TikTok ShopAddress, policy and verification rules: our TikTok Shop guide |
| TikTok's US seller guide requires a US business location, with only US-based businesses and warehouse addresses supported |
| Google & YouTubeFeeds, free listings and ads: our Google Shopping guide |
| Free listings in the Google Shopping tab are described for eligible stores selling in the United States, and YouTube Shopping needs a YouTube channel with at least 1,000 subscribers |
| Shopify Marketplace ConnectWhat it covers in practice: our eBay integration guide |
| New connections to Etsy can't be made at this time |
| Agentic storefronts |
| Agentic storefronts can't be added to channel markets |
| Buy Button |
| Shopify doesn't recommend Buy Buttons on your own Shopify online store or blog, because they can cause problems with checkout |

Facebook & Instagram: two official answers on the plan
Key takeaway
The plan question has two official answers. Shopify's Facebook and Instagram by Meta page, read October 14, 2026, says the channel is free to use with all Shopify plans, subject to store eligibility. Meta's Business Help Center, also read October 14, 2026, lists the Basic Shopify plan or higher among its requirements.
Your admin settles it for your store: if the channel shows as Unavailable, the store doesn't meet its requirements. If it installs, Meta's commerce account review is the next step, and Meta says that review can take up to 4 weeks.
How to Add a Sales Channel
Key takeaway
On a computer, adding a channel takes four steps:
- From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Sales channels.
- Open the Shopify App Store from that page.
- Search for the channel you want.
- Click Install.
In the Shopify mobile app, the same steps start from Settings > Sales channels.
What changes the moment a channel is installed
Key takeaway
The step that catches merchants out happens as soon as the install finishes. Shopify states it without conditions:
When you add a sales channel in Shopify, all your existing products are automatically available to the channel.
So the real decision comes before you click Install. To keep a product off a channel, remove that channel from the product's availability, the same Publishing setting covered in the publishing section.
Two kinds of channel behave differently. The Shop channel is added to your admin automatically when your store meets the Shop Merchant Guidelines. Agentic storefronts such as ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot need nothing installed: they are active by default for eligible stores and managed in the Agentic storefronts section of Settings > Sales channels. Shopify notes that Google AI Mode and Gemini is rolling out to eligible stores.
Under the Google & YouTube requirements, the channel syncs your products in a separate step after you connect Merchant Center, and an existing product feed is overwritten at that point to avoid conflicts between your Shopify store and the account. If your Merchant Center account is a multi-client account, the channel can't sync your products at all.
Who on your team can add or remove channels
Key takeaway
Channel access is a store permission. A user with the Manage and install apps and channels permission can add, access or delete apps and channels, provided their permissions match the ones each app or channel requires. If you check specific apps and sales channels in a role instead, the user can access only those, and Shopify says they can't install or delete apps. Point of Sale is the exception: access to it is managed through Point of Sale roles, not store permissions.
How to Publish Products to a Sales Channel
Key takeaway
Installing a channel opens the door. What the channel shows is decided product by product, variant by variant and collection by collection, and then the channel runs its own review.
One product: its Publishing section
Key takeaway
Shopify puts the switch on the product itself: you control where you're selling a product by including it in your active sales channels.
- In your admin, go to Products and open the product.
- Click Manage publishing to adjust the product's channels.
- Select the channels the product should sell on, clear the rest, and click Done.
- Click Save.
Excluding a product from a channel hides it from that channel. Shop is the exception: a product excluded from the Shop channel might still be displayed in Shop, with customers redirected to your online store to make a purchase.
Duplicates inherit the setting: if you duplicate a product and set the copy to Active, it publishes automatically to the same sales channels as the original. Point of Sale is a channel too, and when a product is missing from the POS app, our POS missing-product answer walks through the checks.
Variants have to be published too
Key takeaway
Publishing has a second layer below the product. Shopify's variant publishing page says that for a variant to be displayed in a sales channel or catalog, both the parent product and the variant must be published to that channel or catalog. If every variant is unpublished from a channel, the parent product is entirely hidden there until you republish at least one variant.
That is why a product's Active status proves little on its own: Active is a product status, not a channel publication. When a product is Active but missing from a channel, start with our answer on products that don't show on a sales channel.
Collections are published separately
Key takeaway
Collections have their own availability setting, and three rules come with it:
- Products keep their own settings. Changing a collection's availability doesn't change the availability of the individual products in it.
- Menus are separate. Making a collection visible to the Online Store doesn't automatically link it to your store's menus.
- Dates work on the Online Store. You can set a specific publishing date for a collection to be displayed in your online store, from the calendar in its Online Store row.
Many products at once, and products you add later
Key takeaway
For many products, the Help Center points to a bulk action: select the products in your Products list and set their availability by sales channel in one move instead of opening each product.
New products are a separate question. Shopify's developer documentation describes a publication setting, autoPublish, under which products are published automatically when they're created; that is a field on a publication in the Admin API. In the admin, the product details page describes the default: every sales channel and market starts selected in a product's Publishing section. Open that section for each product you add and clear the channels it shouldn't sell on before you set it Active.
Published is not the same as approved
Key takeaway
This is the second gate, and it sits on the channel's side. Each channel judges published products against its own rules and shows the result in its own place:
Where each channel shows its verdict on a product
| Channel | Where you see the decision | What the channel says |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook & Instagram by Meta | Meta's product review | All products uploaded to the channel go through Facebook's review process |
| TikTok Shop | The TikTok channel in your admin, product by product | Disapproved products show their specific disapproval reasons; if they still show as disapproved after you make changes, contact TikTok Support |
| Google & YouTube | Google Merchant Center | Products that don't comply with Google's policies may be disapproved and won't be eligible to serve |
| Shop | The product's listing status in the Shop channel | An ineligible product isn't visible to customers in the Shop app; clicking the status shows why |
Shopify Help Center pages for Facebook and Instagram by Meta, TikTok and Shop, and Google Merchant Center Help, read October 14, 2026.
On its Misrepresentation policy page, Google says account reviews typically take 7 business days, but may take longer for complex reviews.
Different catalogs or prices per channel
Catalogs and prices per channel are a separate layer, set with channel markets, and one of its rules reaches publishing: products in a channel market must also be published to the sales channel to be displayed, and for traffic-generating channels such as Google and Facebook they must be published to your online store at the same price. Our guide explains why traffic-generating channels can't take a different price.
Before and After You Add a Channel
Key takeaway
The checklist puts this guide in launch order. Step two decides what the channel gets, because the install makes your whole catalog available to it.
Sales channel launch checklistTick each step as you add a channel, from requirements to staff access.
Sales channel launch checklist
Tick each step as you add a channel, from requirements to staff access.
Confirm your country, plan and products meet the channel's entry conditions before you install it.
Before you tick this off
- My store's country is on the channel's list (TikTok Shop: one of ten countries)
- My plan qualifies (Shop: Starter or higher, with Shopify Payments activated)
- My products fit the channel (Facebook & Instagram: they require shipping)
Every existing product becomes available to a new channel on install, so list the ones to exclude first.
Before you tick this off
- I listed the products that shouldn't appear on this channel
Take the store out of private mode and publish the pages the channel checks.
Before you tick this off
- The store isn't in private mode (Shop, Facebook & Instagram, Google & YouTube)
- A return policy page is live on the online store (TikTok Shop)
- The Online Store channel is installed (Shop)
- A refund policy and terms of service are in the footer menu, and contact information is visible on a store page (Google & YouTube)
The Google & YouTube channel syncs your products in a separate step after you connect Merchant Center, and an existing product feed is overwritten at that point.
Before you tick this off
- I saved what I need from the existing feed, or there is none
- My Merchant Center account isn't a multi-client account
Open the Shopify App Store from Settings > Sales channels, find the channel and install it.
Before you tick this off
- The channel shows under Sales channels, not under Apps
- If it shows as Unavailable, I went back to the first step
- Right after install, I removed the channel from the products on my list (Publishing section or bulk action)
- For each product I add later, I open its Publishing section and clear the channels it shouldn't sell on
Read the channel's own verdict: Meta's review, TikTok's disapproval reasons, Google Merchant Center, Shop's listing status.
Before you tick this off
- Published products are approved on the channel, not only published
- I fixed or removed the products the channel refused
Give each staff role access only to the sales channels that person runs.
Before you tick this off
- Roles list specific sales channels instead of all of them
- Point of Sale access is handled through Point of Sale roles
What Happens When You Remove a Sales Channel?
Key takeaway
Uninstalling is also Shopify's advice for a sales channel that becomes unsupported: contact the developer and ask them to update their channel, and if you can't reach the developer, uninstall it.
How to uninstall a channel
Key takeaway
- Go to Settings > Sales channels.
- Open the menu (⋯) beside the channel.
- Click Uninstall.
- Confirm in the dialog that opens.
Shopify's page on managing sales channels describes this confirmation as selecting I understand the risks of uninstalling this sales channel. The Pinterest and Facebook & Instagram dialogs we opened on October 14, 2026 asked for a reason for uninstalling instead, with an Uninstall button to confirm. The steps are the same in the Shopify mobile app.
Whichever form the confirmation takes, it is where the general steps stop; what uninstalling changes depends on the channel. Shopify's Buy Button FAQ says to fulfill all Buy Button orders and process any returns or refunds before uninstalling; after uninstalling, you won't be able to publish Buy Button products, fulfill or process orders, or measure performance. If you supply products through Shopify Collective, uninstalling it breaks all your retailer connections immediately, stops new Collective orders, and cancels unfulfilled orders with refunds to your retailers.
For Google & YouTube, Facebook & Instagram, TikTok Shop and Marketplace Connect, the Help Center pages we read on October 14, 2026 don't describe what uninstalling does to listings, ads or data (see the search boundary below), so read that channel's own help on disconnecting before you uninstall it.
What stays visible after you remove or unpublish
Key takeaway
What the Help Center does describe is spread across several channel pages, from Shop's setup page to the agentic storefronts settings. Side by side:
What removing or unpublishing does, channel by channel
| What you do | What the Help Center says happens | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Uninstall the Shop channel | Products published to Shop or in the Shopify Catalog stay discoverable in the Shop app, on shop.com and through agentic shopping experiences, whether or not the channel is installed | Stores that meet the Shop Merchant Guidelines |
| Unpublish products from Shop | Doesn't prevent those products from displaying in Shop | Shop |
| Exclude a product from another channel | The product is hidden from that channel | Every channel except Shop |
| Make a product unavailable to Facebook & Instagram | The product is removed from all three of the channel's features | Facebook and Instagram by Meta |
| Turn off Shopify Catalog sharing | It can take up to 7 days before product data stops being shared | Agentic storefronts |
| Uninstall the Buy Button channel | You won't be able to publish Buy Button products, fulfill or process orders, or measure performance; Shopify says to fulfill all Buy Button orders and process any returns or refunds first | Buy Button |
| Uninstall Shopify Collective | All your retailer connections break immediately, you stop receiving new Collective orders, and unfulfilled orders are canceled and your retailers refunded | Shopify Collective suppliers |
| Uninstall Google & YouTube, Facebook & Instagram, TikTok Shop or Marketplace Connect | Not described on the Help Center pages we read on October 14, 2026; the uninstall steps end with a confirmation dialog | Google & YouTube, Facebook & Instagram, TikTok Shop, Marketplace Connect |
Shopify Help Center pages for Shop, product availability, Facebook and Instagram by Meta, agentic storefronts, Buy Button, Shopify Collective and managing sales channels, read October 14, 2026.
Shop is the channel where removing and disappearing are furthest apart. You can hide individual products, but not the whole store:
You can't stop your entire store from being discovered in Shop, but you can hide individual products.
So for Shop the lever is the product, not the channel. Unpublishing a product from Shop doesn't stop it displaying there, as the table above shows, and a product excluded from the Shop channel might still be displayed there. Hide the products that shouldn't be listed, as the Shop products page quoted above allows, instead of counting on an uninstall.
Several answers in this guide rest on what Shopify's documentation does not say: what uninstalling does to listings, ads and data for Google & YouTube, Facebook & Instagram, TikTok Shop and Marketplace Connect, and a cap on the number of sales channels per plan.
We read the Help Center pages on sales channels (the overview, managing channels, Shop, marketplaces, social commerce, Facebook and Instagram by Meta, TikTok, Google & YouTube, agentic storefronts, Buy Button, Shopify Collective and channel markets), on products (adding and updating products, collections and bulk actions), the features-on-all-plans page, Shopify's pricing page and the developer documentation on publications, on October 14, 2026. The absence is the finding: if Shopify documents any of these, the matching answer here changes.
The Bottom Line
Key takeaway
Shopify makes adding a channel a few clicks. The work that decides whether a channel helps you sits on either side of those clicks: the conditions you meet before, and the publishing and review after.
