The short version
A Shopify store based in one of nine countries can sell on Whatnot through the Whatnot sales channel, which is free to install and syncs products, inventory and orders between Shopify and an approved Whatnot seller account.
Apply in the Whatnot app first, since Shopify says most sellers are approved immediately but some wait up to 2 weeks, then give each product a title, an image, a price, tracked inventory and a weight in Shopify, plus the shipping profile Whatnot asks for.
Most sellers must print Whatnot's own shipping labels, because Shopify or third-party fulfillment works only with Whatnot's Bring Your Own Label approval, which Whatnot lists for international shipments from France, shipments from Germany and the Wholesale category, limited to sellers in the US, France and Germany.
As of October 21, 2026, commission starts at 8% in the US, Canada and Australia and at up to 6.67% plus VAT in the UK and EU, lower for some categories, and falls by four-week sales tier, with payment processing charged on top.
Whatnot's own sales channel for Shopify: it lists your Shopify products on Whatnot for live shows and Buy It Now, and syncs inventory and orders back to your admin.

Not connected yet? The five-question route quiz tells you whether to connect now, apply for Bring Your Own Label, or start with Whatnot's seller application.
Already connected? The rule most sellers don't expect is in who prints the label. This guide follows Shopify's four Whatnot help pages, the Whatnot listing on the Shopify App Store and Whatnot's own Help Center as read on October 21, 2026. Where the two companies' pages disagree, both versions are printed with what to do.
What the Whatnot Channel Does for a Shopify Store
Key takeaway
Shopify files Whatnot under marketplaces in its Help Center and describes it in one sentence:
Whatnot is a live shopping marketplace where you can reach new audiences and sell your products during live shows with auctions, flash sales, and giveaways, or through a Whatnot storefront.
That gives you two formats. A live show listing is auctioned in a Whatnot livestream; a Buy It Now listing is a direct sale in your Whatnot store. The channel itself is free to install on any Shopify plan, according to the Help Center overview; what you pay is Whatnot's selling fees, covered in the fees section.
Two practical consequences follow from who built it. Shopify sends every question about the channel, your Whatnot account, your Whatnot store and your live shows to Whatnot support. And Shopify stays the source of truth: product data and prices are edited in Shopify and flow to Whatnot, not the other way round.
Whatnot is not the only way to sell live from a Shopify catalog. If you are weighing it against TikTok Shop, keep in mind that each channel sets its own country list, fees and label rules, and the TikTok side of that comparison is covered in our guide to TikTok Shop orders in Shopify.
Who Can Sell on Whatnot Through Shopify
Key takeaway
There are two gates, and it pays to keep them apart. The first decides whether your store can connect at all; the second, covered in what a product needs, decides whether each product makes it across. A store that fails the first gate gains nothing from cleaning up its catalog.
Store Requirements: Nine Countries, One Currency
Key takeaway
Find your country below. The table also carries what changes by country later on — the processing fee, when Whatnot releases earnings, and whether you can ever print your own labels — so you can see your whole picture in one row.
The nine countries the Whatnot channel accepts
| Store country | Whatnot payment processing fee | When Whatnot releases earnings | Bank arrival after a payout starts | Bring Your Own Label |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States | 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction | Within four hours of confirmed delivery | Typically 1–2 business days | Wholesale category only |
| Canada | 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction | Within four hours of confirmed delivery | 3–4 business days; 1–2 once Whatnot's October 2026 update reaches your account | None of the three cases (Whatnot's Wholesale category is US, France and Germany only) |
| Australia | 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction | After delivery and at least 96 hours since the sale | 2–3 business days | None of the three cases (Whatnot's Wholesale category is US, France and Germany only) |
| United Kingdom | 2.42% + £0.25 per transaction, plus VAT | After delivery and at least 96 hours since the sale | Typically 1–2 business days | None of the three cases (Whatnot's Wholesale category is US, France and Germany only) |
| Austria | 2.42% + €0.25 per transaction, plus VAT | After delivery and at least 96 hours since the sale | Typically 1–2 business days | None of the three cases (Whatnot's Wholesale category is US, France and Germany only) |
| Belgium | 2.42% + €0.25 per transaction, plus VAT | After delivery and at least 96 hours since the sale | Typically 1–2 business days | None of the three cases (Whatnot's Wholesale category is US, France and Germany only) |
| Netherlands | 2.42% + €0.25 per transaction, plus VAT | After delivery and at least 96 hours since the sale | Typically 1–2 business days | None of the three cases (Whatnot's Wholesale category is US, France and Germany only) |
| France | 2.42% + €0.25 per transaction, plus VAT | Its own rules on Whatnot's payout page | Typically 1–2 business days | International shipments from France, or the Wholesale category (in beta in France) |
| Germany | 2.42% + €0.25 per transaction, plus VAT | Four days after label generation | Typically 1–2 business days | Shipments from Germany, or the Wholesale category (in beta in Germany) |
Countries: Shopify Help Center, Setting up the Whatnot sales channel. Fees, payout timing, Bring Your Own Label eligibility, the Wholesale category limit and Canada's October 2026 payout update: Whatnot Help Center (seller fees, When you'll get paid for your sales, Set up and start payouts, Bring Your Own Label, Whatnot Wholesale Category Policy). All read October 21, 2026.
Currency. Shopify's setup page says the main store currency you set for your Shopify and Whatnot accounts must be the same. Set it before you connect.
Country match. Whatnot's integration page lists a country mismatch among the reasons products don't sync: your Shopify store's primary region must match your Whatnot seller account's country, so a U.S. Whatnot account needs a U.S. Shopify store. If products refuse to sync and every field is filled in, this is the condition to check.
Nine or ten countries? Whatnot accepts sellers from ten countries on its location and currency page: the nine above plus Japan, which it describes as a limited pilot. The Shopify channel lists nine, and so does Whatnot's own integration page, so for a Shopify store the answer is nine — no Japanese store, and no other country in Asia.
How Long Does Whatnot Seller Approval Take?
Key takeaway
The channel needs an approved Whatnot seller behind it, and Whatnot takes the application in its mobile app. Shopify's setup page, read October 21, 2026, puts a number on the wait — most sellers are approved immediately, but some wait up to 2 weeks — while Whatnot's own Apply to sell page says only that many sellers get access right away and some applications need extra review (see what we looked for).
Either way, apply first: product data can be fixed while you wait; install and connect once you're approved.
Whatnot's Apply to sell page splits the application into six steps:
- Open the Whatnot app, tap + Sell, then Get Started.
- Agree to Whatnot's Community Guidelines.
- Choose your primary seller category.
- Answer the questions about your selling experience.
- Enter your full legal name and the address you will fulfill orders from.
- Submit the application.
Whatnot says most sellers can apply if they live in a supported country and are at least 13; sellers aged 13 to 17 need a parent or guardian's permission and a special application. Before your first live show you also complete Whatnot's seller verification, which Whatnot says takes a few minutes.
Some categories need a second approval. Whatnot's gated-category page lists these:
- Luxury Bags & Accessories
- Luxury Watches
- Supplements
- Meat & Seafood and Specialty Food
- Surprise Sets in Sneakers and Streetwear
- Surprise Sets in Bags & Accessories
Whatnot's Apply to sell page also names Wholesale as gated, while the list above doesn't include it. Whatnot's Wholesale policy limits that category to sellers in the U.S., France and Germany; if you sell pallets, case packs or bundles from one of them, ask Whatnot Support which approval your account needs. Some products can't be sold at all: Whatnot's prohibited items page rules out alcohol, including spirits, wine and beer, among others.
How to Connect Shopify to Whatnot
Key takeaway
The install happens in Shopify and the authorization happens on Whatnot, in this order:
Adding a channel works the same way for every channel Shopify offers through the App Store, and our guide to adding a sales channel in Shopify covers the general mechanics.
Two things are specific to Whatnot. After installation, Whatnot's page says the Whatnot Sales Channel shows up in the bottom-left sidebar of your admin. And if you click Connect without a Whatnot account, you are prompted to create one — which gets you an account, not the seller approval the channel needs.
To undo the connection, go to Sales channels > Whatnot and use Disconnect Account in the Whatnot Account section; Shopify's setup page says you can do this at any time.
Which Whatnot Account Can Authorize the Connection?
Key takeaway
The two companies name the role differently. Shopify's setup page asks for a Whatnot account with account owner or admin-level access; Whatnot's integration page asks for an account with Owner or Manager permissions.
The account owner satisfies both companies' role requirements, so sign in as the owner when you click Authorize, and keep a manager login in reserve only if the owner's fails.
One Store, One Whatnot Account
Key takeaway
Merchants who run more than one store, or one store per region, hit this limit first. Whatnot states it plainly on its integration page:
At this time, only a one-to-one connection (one Shopify store to one Whatnot account) is supported. We're working on expanding this.
A second rule sits on the seller side. Whatnot's location page answers the question of selling in several countries with yes, but you need a separate account and an application from each country you plan to sell in. Read those two rules together before you plan a second region on Whatnot.
How Products Get From Shopify to Whatnot
Key takeaway
This is the second gate. Your store is connected; now each product has to qualify, sync, and land in the right format.
What a Product Needs Before It Syncs
Key takeaway
The two companies' lists overlap but are not the same. Shopify's setup page lists five product details, weight among them, plus a price and quantity on each variant; Whatnot's integration page adds a shipping profile, the product's status and a weight on every variant, not just on the product. Since a product that misses Whatnot's list simply fails to sync, work to the longer list.
Product data the Whatnot channel needs
| What the product needs | Shopify's setup page | Whatnot's integration page | Extra for live-show listings (Whatnot) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Title | Required | Required | — |
| Image | At least one | At least one | — |
| Price | Required | Required | Every variant priced above $0 |
| Inventory quantity | Required, with inventory tracking on | Required | Stock above zero; every variant has a quantity |
| Weight | Required | A valid weight | — |
| Shipping profile | Not listed | A valid shipping profile | Required |
| Each variant | A price and an inventory quantity, with tracking on | A price, a quantity and a weight on every variant; missing SKUs or variant prices can block the whole product | Quantity and a price above $0 |
| Status | Not listed | Active (not Draft) and published to the Whatnot channel | Some categories also need attributes |
Shopify Help Center, Setting up the Whatnot sales channel; Whatnot Help Center, Shopify x Whatnot Integration. Both read October 21, 2026.
What Syncs, and Where You Edit It
Key takeaway
Whatnot puts the division of labor in three sentences:
Shopify is the source of truth for product data and inventory. Changes made in Shopify sync to Whatnot. Edits to shared metadata fields like title, description, and price are not allowed within Whatnot.
Shopify's publishing page lists what moves from Shopify to Whatnot, and says any change you make to these details in Shopify is updated in Whatnot automatically:
- Title
- Description
- Images
- Category
- Price
- Inventory
- Variants
- Whatnot Condition metafield
- Whatnot Category metafield
How fast? Whatnot calls syncing event-driven and near real-time: it fires when you edit a product in Shopify or when something sells on Whatnot, and there is no scheduled batch. No page we read gives a delay in seconds or minutes, and none sets a cap on how many products the channel lists (see what we looked for). For a full resync, Whatnot points to Force Sync All Products in the channel's settings.
Whatnot assigns a shipping profile from the weight in Shopify. Its integration page warns that changing the weight in Shopify reattaches a Shopify-based shipping profile to the listing, and any custom profile you had assigned in Whatnot has to be attached again by hand. Re-check those listings after every weight edit.
Setting a Different Price for Whatnot
Key takeaway
Rounding comes first. Whatnot uses whole-currency amounts. Shopify's setup page gives the example: a product synced at $2.53 shows on Whatnot as $2 by default, and turning on Round up prices shows it as $3 instead. If your prices end in cents, decide which way you want them to fall before the first sync.
A separate Whatnot price. Shopify's publishing page, read October 21, 2026, describes a Whatnot Price metafield for products that should cost something different on Whatnot, and a Price Delta field that raises or lowers prices by a percentage — applied to the metafield price where one is set. Whatnot's integration page, read the same day, mentions a Whatnot Price metafield in a tip but describes pricing through separate Whatnot Auction Price and Whatnot Buy-It-Now Price metafields, and calls the percentage setting Sales Delta.
Use the names your channel's settings show you; what both pages agree on is that the change happens in Shopify, because Whatnot says you can't change prices on Whatnot itself.
Buy It Now or Live Show: Where Synced Products Land
Key takeaway
Here the official pages give two answers. Shopify's publishing page, read October 21, 2026, says synced products are initially imported into Whatnot as Buy It Now listings, and inactive by default. Whatnot's integration page, read the same day, says new synced products are available as Auction in your Inactive inventory tab.
Don't plan around either: after your first sync, open the Inactive tab in Whatnot and see what arrived.
From there you have two moves. To publish everything automatically, turn on Automatically publish products to Whatnot in the channel's Sync Settings; Shopify says that publishes them as Buy It Now listings. To sell a product in a show instead, Shopify says to edit it in Whatnot and set it as a live-show listing.
Buy It Now listings can also take offers. With Allow offers on products turned on, buyers can ask for a percentage discount or suggest their own price, and you accept, decline or counter each offer.
If a product shows as Failed to sync, go to Inventory > Failed to Sync in the Whatnot channel, fix the error the channel reports, and check that the product now appears under Synced Listings. If a product never reaches the channel at all, the publishing checks on the Shopify side are covered in why a product isn't showing on a sales channel.
Whatnot Orders in Shopify: Drafts, Labels, Shipping
Key takeaway
Orders are where the channel behaves least like your own storefront. They show up in Shopify, but the label, the payout and most of the rules belong to Whatnot.
Where Whatnot Orders Show Up in Shopify
Key takeaway
Live-show purchases arrive as drafts. Shopify's setup page says a purchase made during a Whatnot live show is created as a draft order in your Shopify admin, and when the show ends, all draft orders become full orders automatically. To convert them early, click Complete All Draft Orders in the Orders section of the Whatnot channel.
If draft orders are new to you, our guide to Shopify draft orders explains what they are in the admin.
Whatnot-only products. You can create inventory directly in the Whatnot Seller Hub, outside Shopify. By default those orders don't sync back to Shopify; Whatnot's page points to a toggle on the Settings page of the channel that turns syncing of those orders on, and Shopify's orders page describes the same choice.
Shipping and tax lines. Two settings, Show shipping cost on orders and Show tax on orders, are off by default. Whatnot says they change only how the order looks in Shopify, not what the buyer sees or pays on Whatnot.
The buyer's email isn't really theirs to give you. Whatnot passes buyer contact information to Shopify as aliased relay emails, and the same paragraph of its page treats marketing to those buyers outside the platform as a breach of its rules. That is the marketplace trade in miniature: you get the order, Whatnot keeps the customer. Our comparison of selling on a marketplace versus your own store explains who owns the customer on each side.
Who Prints the Label for a Whatnot Order?
Key takeaway
Go by Shopify's orders page, because Shopify's channel overview doesn't name the Bring Your Own Label approval that shipping from your Shopify admin depends on.
Shopify's pages say two different things here, a few clicks apart. The channel overview, read October 21, 2026, says you can fulfill through Whatnot, Shopify or a third-party fulfillment integration in Shopify, with no condition attached. The orders page, read the same day, attaches the condition: you ship through the Whatnot Seller Hub, or through your Shopify admin if you're approved for Bring Your Own Label.
Three ways to fulfill a Whatnot order
| Where you fulfill | Who can use it | What reaches Shopify |
|---|---|---|
| Shipments page in the Whatnot Seller Hub | Every seller; the default route | The label URL lands in a Whatnot Label metafield on the Shopify order, and tracking is added automatically |
| Orders in your Shopify admin | Only sellers approved for Bring Your Own Label | Fulfillment syncs back to Whatnot when the order came from Whatnot, carries a tracking number and wasn't edited by hand |
| A third-party fulfillment integration in Shopify | Only sellers approved for Bring Your Own Label | The same three conditions as the Shopify admin route |
Shopify Help Center, Managing your Whatnot orders, shipping, payments, and cancellations; Whatnot Help Center, Shopify x Whatnot Integration. Both read October 21, 2026.
The default route needs no label purchase from you. Whatnot's label page says shipping is charged at checkout, so you don't buy your own label. The same page carries the warning that matters for anyone with a Shopify shipping setup they like:
Always use a Whatnot-generated shipping label unless you've been approved for Bring Your Own Label (BYOL). Using another label can prevent tracking updates and delay your payout.
Bring Your Own Label: Who Qualifies
Key takeaway
Whatnot's Bring Your Own Label page says you may be eligible if you are:
- Shipping internationally from France — domestic French shipments are not on the list
- Shipping from Germany
- Selling in the Wholesale category: pallets, case packs and bundles
Whatnot's Wholesale category policy limits the category to sellers in the U.S., France and Germany (in beta in France and Germany); for US sellers it puts case packs and bundles on standard Whatnot labels and pallets on freight tracked through Bring Your Own Label, while the Bring Your Own Label page lists the whole Wholesale category. Ask Support which of your lots the request covers.
Eligible is not approved. The request goes through Whatnot Support, and until it is approved you don't use your own label. Once approved, Shopify Shipping, a shipping app or your fulfillment service can produce the label, with one cost to watch: if your label costs more than the shipping amount collected at checkout, you pay the difference. Whatnot's Bring Your Own Label page limits the carriers by shipping country, for example DPD and DHL from Germany and Colissimo, Mondial Relay, DHL and Chronopost from France, and doesn't allow untracked shipping.
For the fulfillment to sync back to Whatnot, Whatnot's integration page names three conditions: the order originated from Whatnot, the fulfillment includes a tracking number, and the order hasn't been manually altered in Shopify. A fulfillment service that ships without tracking numbers breaks the second one.
Cancellations and Returns
Key takeaway
One direction is documented. Shopify's orders page says that if you cancel a Whatnot order in your Whatnot Seller Hub, it is also canceled in the orders list in your Shopify admin, and points customer cancellation requests to Whatnot's help.
The other direction is not. No page we read describes whether canceling a Whatnot order from the Shopify admin reaches Whatnot, so cancel in the Seller Hub, where the sync is documented.
Whatnot's Buyer Protection page sets the return and refund rules: Whatnot says most sales are considered final, buyers are protected if an item never arrives, arrives damaged or doesn't match its description, and some sellers may choose to offer refunds or returns at their own discretion; buyers submit refund requests in the Whatnot app. The same page gives EU and UK buyers the right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days of delivery, for any reason, except in listed categories such as cards, blind boxes and Surprise Sets, with return shipping at the buyer's cost.
No page we read says whether a Whatnot refund or return reaches the Shopify order. Ask Whatnot support about the Shopify side before you write a returns policy that covers Whatnot buyers.
Read October 21, 2026. Each item names where we looked; the absence is the finding, not proof that the rule doesn't exist somewhere else.

How Much Whatnot Takes, and When You Get Paid
Key takeaway
Money is where Shopify's pages lag furthest behind Whatnot's, so this section leans on Whatnot's own fee and payout pages and says where Shopify's differ.
What Does Whatnot Charge as of October 2026?
Key takeaway
Shopify's and Whatnot's pages start from the same number and then part ways. Shopify's setup page and the App Store listing, read October 21, 2026, say Whatnot charges an 8% commission that might be lower depending on region and category, plus a 2.9% + $0.30 processing fee.
Whatnot's fee page, which shows US-dollar figures, says its commission starts at 8% and that your total sales over a four-week period set your tier, and the tier sets the rate. Its seller fees page dates the new structure to September 21, 2026 for existing sellers.
Whatnot's commission starts at the standard tier: 8% of the item price in the US, Canada and Australia and up to 6.67% plus VAT in the UK and the five EU countries, lower for some categories, and in most categories it drops as your four-week sales move you into higher tiers; payment processing is charged on top. Treat Whatnot's fee pages as the current schedule.
Whatnot's selling fees, as of October 21, 2026
| Charge | Rate | Charged on | Applies to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Selling commission | Starts at 8% in the US, Canada and Australia and at up to 6.67% plus VAT in the UK and EU, lower for some categories, and falls by four-week sales tier in most categories | The item's sale price (GMV), not shipping or tax | Sellers in all nine channel countries; the tier is set by total sales over a four-week period |
| Payment processing | 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction | The total the buyer pays: item price, buyer-paid shipping and taxes (Whatnot's page; Shopify's page adds that processing doesn't apply to international shipping costs or taxes) | US, Canada, Australia |
| Payment processing | 2.42% + €/£0.25 per transaction, plus VAT | The total the buyer pays (Whatnot's page; Shopify's page adds that processing doesn't apply to international shipping costs or taxes) | EU and UK |
| Custom commission | As low as 3% | The item's sale price | Highest-volume sellers on custom terms with a dedicated account manager — not a public rate |
Whatnot Help Center, Whatnot seller fees (tier thresholds and the rates below the standard tier, by market and vertical, are listed there, not here); Shopify Help Center, Setting up the Whatnot sales channel. Read October 21, 2026.
A worked example. Take a US store selling a $100 item outside the Coins category, which starts at 4%, at the standard 8% rate, with shipping and tax left out to keep the arithmetic visible: the commission is $8, processing is $3.20 (2.9% of $100 plus $0.30), and the two together come to $11.20, leaving $88.80 before any tier discount.
Two things change it in real life. Whatnot's seller fees page charges processing on the buyer's whole payment, including shipping and taxes, so it rises with them. Shopify's setup page applies processing to the order subtotal, tax and shipping your customer pays, then says processing fees don't apply to any international shipping costs or taxes; the page doesn't say which taxes that second sentence covers. And a higher tier lowers the commission, while Whatnot says a reduced rate applies to the selling commission only, never to processing.
Watch the lowest number on Whatnot's marketing pages. Its seller page says rates drop as low as 3% as sales grow; the fee page explains who actually gets that rate:
Rates as low as 3% are custom rates available to our highest-volume sellers who work directly with a dedicated account manager on custom terms.
The schedule is also moving. These dated changes come from Whatnot's Help Center:
Installing the channel is free, and the App Store listing says Whatnot may bill its charges separately from your Shopify invoice.
When Do Whatnot Sales Turn Into Cash?
Key takeaway
The money lands in your Whatnot account balance, not in Shopify. Shopify's orders page, read October 21, 2026, says you get a credit 48 to 72 hours after your customer receives the order, and can withdraw to your bank at any time.
Whatnot's payout page, read the same day, ties the timing to your country instead: within four hours of confirmed delivery in the US and Canada, after delivery and at least 96 hours since the sale in Australia, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK; Germany and France follow separate rules. For Germany, the page sets four days after label generation.
Plan cash flow on the row for your country in the country table, with exceptions on Whatnot's payout pages, including these two: with Early Payout, earnings generally become available as soon as you generate a shipping label, and on your own label they start processing seven days after you enter the tracking number, or as soon as you add it with Early Payout.
Whatnot then transfers to your bank through Stripe Connect, typically in 1–2 business days, 2–3 in Australia and 3–4 in Canada, where Whatnot is rolling out 1–2 business days during October 2026, according to its payouts page, which also says PayPal is no longer available as a payout method unless you added it before it was removed. Its location page adds that your bank account's country and currency must match your Whatnot registration.
Which Whatnot Route Fits Your Store?
The country table answers by country alone. This quiz answers by combination: your country, where you stand with Whatnot, how you ship today and what you sell decide together whether you connect now, apply for Bring Your Own Label, or start with Whatnot's seller application. Five questions, one route, and what to settle first.

Whatnot Channel Setup Checklist
Key takeaway
The steps are in the order that saves the most time. After step one confirms the store qualifies, start step two at once, because the Whatnot application is the only part you can't speed up; step three can run while it is under review, and steps four to six follow the approval. Step nine is the one to settle before the first order: it decides which labels you print.
Whatnot channel setupTick each step as you go, from the country check to the first order's label.

The Bottom Line
Key takeaway
The integration is easy to install and strict everywhere else. The rules that shape the work — the seller approval, the product data, the label and the payout — are Whatnot's, and on several of them Shopify's pages and Whatnot's pages give different answers, which this guide prints side by side.
