Which devices run the Shopify 3D scanner?

Shopify's device list names three: an iPhone 12 Pro or newer, an iPhone 12 Pro Max or newer — both on iOS 17 or later — and iPad Pro models from 2021 or newer on iPadOS 17 or later.

The button sits in a product's Media section, under Add images, videos, or 3D models. Shopify's blog post about the feature says the scanner runs on Pro-model iPhones with no extra software, technology, or cost.

Will your product scan, and how long does it take?

The object must be at least 3 in (8 cm) in length, width and height.

Seven characteristics are likely to affect the quality — texture, pattern, color, finish, rigidity, thickness and gaps. The hard cases are products that are smooth, single-color, reflective, soft or flexible, thin or finely detailed like hair and fur, with no pattern or a repeated one, or with large or multiple gaps.

Plan for three separate scans and 10 to 15 minutes per model; then add it to the product or save it to your Files app.

A scan follows the same format and size rules as any 3D model you upload.

What if you're on Android, or the product won't scan?

On Android, Shopify says you can download a third-party scanning app but names none. The App Store gallery for 3D Scan & Show calls that app “iOS & Android Compatible”.

If your product is under 3 in or on the hard-case list, a Shopify Partner builds it from your photos and dimensions and sends the file back: the Help Center page on hiring a Partner asks for a GLB of about 4 MB, never above 15 MB, and says contacting a Partner commits you to nothing.
