Do your online discount codes work in Shopify POS?

Yes. Customers can redeem fixed-value and percentage codes from your admin online and in person with Shopify POS, with or without POS Pro. Shopify rules out online-only codes:

Customers can redeem discount codes on all of the sales channels that you have set up for your store. You can't restrict customers from redeeming discount codes on specific sales channels.

So limit a code through its own settings in Discounts — active dates, usage limits, a minimum purchase — not through the channel.

Fixed-value and percentage codes from this list also work at your registers when the cart qualifies.

How do staff apply a code at the register?

The cashier enters the code at checkout in the POS app; it applies to fixed value or percentage codes when the POS cart meets the code's requirements.

Staff can also scan a shareable discount's QR code; it applies automatically when the cart qualifies, on POS app version 11.5 or later.

Staff need the Point of Sale Apply discount codes permission. On POS Lite locations, POS roles don't apply, and admin users with POS access have full access. On POS Pro locations, the permission is set in a POS role to Allowed, Denied, or Approval required, where staff with manager approval and apply discount permissions allowed enter their PIN:

Why won't a discount code apply at the register?

The sales channel isn't the cause. Check these instead:

  • The cart misses a requirement: minimum purchase, eligible products, active dates or usage limit.
  • It's an exchange — codes can't be applied to exchanges in POS.
  • On POS Pro, the staff member's POS role denies Apply discount codes, or requires approval and no one with manager approval and apply discount permissions allowed is there to enter their PIN.
  • On POS Pro, an active automatic discount overrides cart and line-item discounts; turn it off for that transaction.
  • It's stacked on another code: combining a code with another code needs POS Pro, and both must be configured as combinable in your admin.
