Can you send a payment request per fulfillment on Shopify?

Published ·
At a glance
Short answer
Plus only: request payment per fulfillment on orders with Due on fulfillment terms, except non-B2B orders created under fulfillment-based capture.
Where Plus is stated
Shopify's B2B plan features page and February 6, 2026 changelog; the deferred payments help page names no plan.
Capture setting
Not for non-B2B orders created under fulfillment-based capture; changing the setting later doesn't help existing orders.
Shipping, fees and duties
Charged with the final fulfillment.
Pending deposit
Mark it as paid before you fulfill items and send further requests.

Which stores and orders qualify?

Only Plus stores. Shopify's B2B plan features page and its February 6, 2026 changelog post say so; the deferred payments help page named no plan when we read it on October 17, 2026.

The order needs Due on fulfillment terms and more than one fulfillment — pre-orders or mixed lead times, for example. You can add the terms later while the order has no fulfillments.

Capture matters too. Orders created under Automatically at checkout or Manually qualify. Orders created under fulfillment-based capture, such as Capture per fulfillment, don't, and changing the setting later won't help them. Capture per fulfillment is the automatic alternative, also Plus-only: payment is authorized at checkout and captured as items are fulfilled, but only within the authorization period. B2B orders qualify under any setting.

How do you send a request for one fulfillment?

Open the order, click Send invoice in its Payment pending section, then pick the fulfillment. The button says invoice, not payment request.

Only fulfillments you have created can be billed, and you send each request yourself: none of the four Shopify pages cited here, read on October 17, 2026, describes sending these requests automatically.

The customer gets an email link to pay that fulfillment with any payment method your store offers. Their customer account shows only requests you have sent; until you send a request, they can pay only for the full order.

What does each payment request charge?

  • Items and taxes: in every request.
  • Shipping, fees and duties: charged with the final fulfillment.
  • Discounts: item-level ones apply per fulfillment, order-level ones are divided evenly, shipping discounts come off the final one.
  • Deposit: one taken when the order was created goes toward the first request — deposits are a Plus-only native tool. If it's still pending, mark it as paid before you fulfill items and send further requests.
