How do you open the tips report in Shopify admin?

The Finances report shows the total tips collected, online and in POS.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Analytics > Reports.
  2. Optional: click the Categories filter and select Finances.
  3. Click Tips.
  4. For online sales only, pick Online Store from the All channels drop-down.

Online tipping is turned on separately, in Settings > Checkout, even if POS already collects tips; presets and limits are in the tipping section of our restaurant guide.

How do you tell POS tips from online tips?

If you collect tips, the Finance Summary shows two tip cards for the selected date range: Tips over time and Tips by staff member.

For the channel split, open Tips by staff member — the only tips report that Shopify documents with a sales channel column:

  • Sales channel — Point of Sale for tips paid in store, Online Store for tips collected online.
  • Staff member name — who processed the tip; online tips show N/A.
  • Tips — the value earned in the selected period.

Tips over time displays the total tips received. In store, POS tips are available only for credit payments processed with a supported card reader.

What the tips reports leave to you

The POS help pages we read on October 10, 2026 — Daily Sales, cash tracking, cash payments, adding staff to a sale — don't name tips, so take period totals from Finances.

Online tips are part of the order total, so credit card fees or third-party transaction fees apply to them.

Refunds differ by channel: on an online order you add the tip to the refund by hand, while in POS you can refund a tip without refunding the whole order.

Decide the split before you pay staff

Shopify's tipping, POS and reports help pages we read on October 10, 2026 don't describe splitting tips among staff; online tips show N/A for staff. Write your own rule for the online share before paying staff.
