- Short answer
- Checkout found no rate for that address: the country may sit outside an active market or a zone with rates, or the cart may match no rate
- What the customer sees
- “Shipping not available” or “Your order cannot be shipped to the selected address”, plus variations.
- Which system you're on
- Settings > Shipping and delivery: shipping profiles, or a Shipping options section organized by market.
- Country rule
- Selectable only when it's in an active market and a shipping zone with available rates.
- Cart rule
- An order above a top tier that has a maximum value set, or outside your ranges, gets no rate.
- Local delivery
- Radius up to 160 km / 100 miles, never into another country.
What does “Shipping not available” mean at checkout?
It means checkout compared the customer's address and cart with your shipping rates and found none that matches.
When checkout details don't match the conditions of your rates, Shopify's troubleshooting page says an error might display, such as “Your order cannot be shipped to the selected address. Enter a different address” or “Shipping not available. Your order cannot be shipped to the selected address. Review your address to ensure it's correct and try again, or select a different address”, or a variation of them.
The two shipping systems word the notice differently. On shipping profiles, a customer whose address is in a region outside your shipping zones gets a notice that no shipping rate is available for their region. With shipping options by market, a customer whose address is outside an active market, or in a region you don't ship to, is notified that no shipping option is available.
Searches also show the wording “shipping and delivery options are not available for this customer's address”. None of the Help Center pages on shipping rates, zones, shipping options, local delivery and pickup we read on October 12, 2026 uses that wording or says where it appears.
Which shipping system is your store on?
Every later check depends on this, and Shopify's guide to what's changing with shipping gives the test. If shipping is organized in shipping profiles, with shipping zones and rates, your store uses the current system; if it is organized by market, in a Shipping options section, it has been upgraded.
- Settings
- Shipping and delivery
As of October 2026, most stores still use shipping profiles, and a store keeps its current setup until it's upgraded. The rollout is gradual: the Shopify.dev changelog says market-driven shipping starts rolling out to merchants on October 1, 2026, with all merchants on it by July 1, 2027, and the Help Center lists shipping options by market as early access for certain stores only.
Existing rates are migrated during the upgrade, so most merchants don't need to take any action for the move itself.
Is the country in an active market and a zone with rates?
A country has to clear two gates: it can join a shipping zone only once it belongs to a market, and if that market is inactive, its customers can't place an order even when the country sits in a shipping zone with available rates. Shopify's shipping zones page puts the rule in one line:
Customers can select a country at checkout only when it's included in both an active market and a shipping zone with available shipping rates.
The same page adds: if customers can't select a country in the shipping address dropdown, verify that the market is activated and shipping zones are configured for that country. Shopify's shipping rates and shipping options pages describe a notice instead.
Check the customer's country in this order:
- In Markets, confirm the country is in an active market. If a country you deleted from a shipping zone has no possible delivery methods, an error displays in the market showing which countries customers can't check out from; with pickup in store but no shipping rates, it lists countries with no shipping rates.
- Click Manage > Shipping for the customer's market and confirm their country has rates assigned in the shipping profiles it's included in.
- Confirm the shipping zone that includes the customer's address has rates. Within a group of locations in a shipping profile, a country or region can exist in only one shipping zone.
- Confirm products are in the appropriate shipping profiles; on an upgraded store, review the collections created during the upgrade to confirm products and variants are grouped correctly.
- Markets
If the country is missing from every zone, our guide to what happens when a country isn't in a shipping zone walks through adding it.
Does the cart fall outside your rate conditions?
The cart itself can also match no rate:
- Tiers with a ceiling. On shipping profiles, an order above your highest tier, when that tier has a maximum value set, gets no rate, and the customer receives a shipping error at checkout. With shipping options by market, the same happens when an order's total or weight falls outside your ranges.
- Discounts. Checkout uses the cart value after discounts and before taxes, so a discount code can move a cart into a different rate.
- Digital products and services. Checkout won't return shipping rates for products marked as digital products or services, because they don't require physical shipment.
On shipping profiles, one weight case ends without an error: the troubleshooting page says that when a cart's weight falls into a gap between your rate tiers and no other rate applies, the next highest weight-based rate is used so the customer can still check out.
A product with no weight is treated as weightless, so a cart can fall into a lower weight tier than you expect. Open the product's Shipping card: the Weight field displays only when the Physical product setting is activated.
Are carrier, app or dropshipping rates failing?
With carrier-calculated rates, if your default box is set to a carrier package, only that carrier's rates display. All addresses must be valid in the carrier service, both your shipping origin location and the customer's destination. App locations don't have a physical address, so carrier-calculated rates can't use them.
On a store upgraded to shipping options by market, a rate app that isn't compatible might not have its rates displayed at checkout, which can prevent customers from completing their order; our guide to what breaks at the market-driven shipping deadline covers that case.
Some dropshipping apps create an app location when you install them but don't automatically configure shipping rates for that location. If products display as out of stock on your online store, that location might be missing rates — give the app's location its own rates.
While you fix the cause, backup rates display when all app or carrier-calculated rates for a shipment fail and no other eligible rate is available. Flat rates always display when they're eligible, even when app or carrier-calculated rates are working.
Does the address qualify for local delivery or pickup?
Local delivery checks the address against its own conditions, all of which must be met, including these:
- The customer's address is within your delivery radius and the same province or state, or within your listed postal codes and in the same country.
- The radius is at most 160 kilometers or 100 miles and doesn't extend into other countries, even with Include neighboring states or regions turned on.
- Google can verify the customer's delivery address.
Pickup fails with a different message. If customers get “Your order isn't available for pickup. Enter a shipping address” at checkout, Shopify's pickup in store page says a missing shipping zone for your pickup location causes it.
