In Shopify admin
  1. Growth
  2. Campaigns
Step 1 starts from the Create campaign button on this page.

  1. Click Create campaign, enter a name and click Save.
  2. Shopify generates a shareable link: a full URL with your tracking ID, a short link and a QR code.
  3. To add another shareable link, click +, choose a Destination, enter a Short link handle and, optionally, fill in Additional UTM parameters.
  4. Use the Full URL in ad managers.
Steps 2 and 4: the new campaign's link, with the Full URL to copy for ad managers.
Step 3: Destination, Short link handle and the optional Additional UTM parameters section, opened here.

For a shareable discount link, choose Promote > Get a shareable link and pick a campaign under Marketing campaigns; Shopify adds the campaign's UTM identifier and source.

Choose the campaign in Marketing campaigns before you copy the discount link.
Before you edit a live link
Editing a link after customers engage with it can affect campaign reports, so add a new one. Deleting a link removes its traffic from the campaign report; a changed short link handle sends old visits to an error page.

How do you tag any other store URL by hand?

Append a query string starting with "?", as in https://www.yourstorename.com/?utm_source=emailcampaign, by hand or with a campaign URL builder, and join each further tag, such as utm_campaign, with "&". Tags:

  • utm_source: traffic source
  • utm_medium: channel
  • utm_campaign: campaign name
  • utm_content: creative
  • utm_term: paid keywords

Keep one spelling per value: Shopify's blog notes Google Analytics treats utm_source=Pinterest and utm_source=pinterest as two sources. The Campaigns, Marketing reports and Conversion summary help pages we read in October 2026 don't say whether Shopify's own reports do the same.

Link to the final address: Shopify's URL redirects page says URLs with query strings might not work as expected, and no campaign, report or redirect help page we read in October 2026 says whether utm_ tags survive a redirect.

Where does Shopify show UTM traffic?

Shopify attributes to marketing traffic arriving with utm_campaign in the URL. Among the Marketing reports, Sessions attributed to marketing campaigns counts sessions from sources such as a UTM campaign.

For one order, open its Conversion summary: its visit details can include UTM parameters, and summary details might take up to 48 hours to display. If apps or private browsers block cookie tracking, no source may be captured.

The Conversion summary card sits in the order's right column; this test order has no visit data to show.
