What a Sidekick skill is and how many you can create
A Sidekick skill is a set of reusable instructions for a task you do often, such as social media copy, a product description or a sales snapshot. You save it once and run it again with a shortcut instead of retyping the request.

How to create and run a skill
Skills sit behind the + icon in the Sidekick box:

- Answer Sidekick's questions about what the skill does and the format of the result; Sidekick writes and saves it. If a Create a new skill dialog opens instead, enter the shortcut and instructions, then click Save.
- Run the skill by typing / and its shortcut in the chat, or select it under Skills.
Sidekick can also use a skill when your request matches what it does, but in some stores a skill runs only from the list or its shortcut.
What a skill is not: Flow, memory and SKILL.md
Three things sound similar but do a different job:
- Shopify Flow. The skills page describes a skill running when you pick it or type its shortcut. For work that should run at a set time or when a store event happens, use Flow, available on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans. Flow's Scheduled time trigger starts a workflow on your schedule, and Sidekick can build a Flow workflow for you.
- Sidekick memory. Sidekick remembers preferences you tell it and, for about 3 months, your past admin Sidekick chats. A skill is an instruction you create.
- SKILL.md. shopify.com/SKILL.md is an official Shopify file for AI tools. It doesn't set up your store; it tells your AI tool which official Shopify integration to use, such as the Shopify connector for Claude.
