The short version
An AI store builder such as BuildYourStore.ai or CreateMyStore can, by its own description, hand you a ready-made Shopify store without charging for the build, but the store then runs on bills of its own: a Shopify plan that Shopify charges you directly, plus every app you keep.
With the entry plan billed monthly on Shopify's $1 promotion for most plans and AutoDS Starter 500 as the supplier app, that comes to $40.90 a month for the first 3 months and $78.90 a month after, at USD list prices read on October 15, 2026.
Read the refund terms before the first payment: BuildYourStore.ai's Terms say no refunds under any circumstances, and uninstalling an app from your admin does not cancel charges it bills outside Shopify.
Take one only once you hold the Store owner role, have read the refund terms and have priced the apps you will keep; if any of the three fails, start from a Shopify theme or an official vibe code partner, routes Shopify documents itself.
The Quick Verdict
Find the row that matches your store; the sections below are the detail behind each answer.
Which kind of AI builder, by your situation
| Your situation | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want a ready-made dropshipping store and accept monthly app bills | A full-store builder, once three checks pass | Hold the Store owner role, read the refund terms (BuildYourStore.ai's refuse refunds) and price the apps you will keep: the build is free by the builders' own description, but the Shopify plan and those apps bill monthly |
| You already run a store and need product pages | A page builder such as PagePilot | It runs on any theme; publishing pages needs a paid plan, from $39/month on its listing on October 15, 2026 |
| You already build in Lovable, Replit, v0 or Manus | An official vibe code partner | Shopify documents the route, including a free trial of currently 4 months, as of October 2026, that starts when you claim the store |
| You want one bill and a theme you edit yourself | A Shopify theme plus the AI in your admin | Sidekick is part of Shopify, so there is no builder subscription to keep paying |
Three Things Sold as an "AI Store Builder"
Key takeaway
Search for an AI store builder and the results mix products that work in different ways. A full-store builder such as BuildYourStore.ai or CreateMyStore produces a complete store and hands it to you. A page builder such as PagePilot works inside a store you already have. PagePilot's own site also offers a free AI Shopify store builder, which it called 100% free for a limited time when we read it on October 15, 2026. And Shopify itself documents a third kind, built by companies it calls vibe code partners.
Three kinds of builder, and Shopify's built-in AI beside them
| Model | What it builds | How it reaches your store | Who bills you | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Full-store builder | A whole store with a starter catalog, by the vendor's description | BuildYourStore.ai hands you the store's credentials; CreateMyStore has you open a Shopify account, for new stores only | Shopify for the plan; each app you keep bills on its own | BuildYourStore.ai, CreateMyStore, the ZipStore app listing, PagePilot's free store builder on its site (for a limited time) |
| Page builder | Product and landing pages generated from a product URL | An app you install from the Shopify App Store, on any theme | Shopify for the plan; the app for its plan, which publishing needs | PagePilot AI |
| Official vibe code partner | A storefront built from your description | The partner creates a store that you claim, with its app staying installed, or connects a store you already own once you approve its data access | Shopify and the partner platform, billed separately | Lovable, Manus, Replit, v0 by Vercel |
| Shopify's built-in AI | Edits and drafts inside a store you already have | It is part of your Shopify admin | Shopify, as part of the product | Sidekick |
Source: Shopify Help Center pages on vibe code partners and AI-powered tools, and each builder's own site or App Store listing, read October 15, 2026.
Shopify's page on vibe code partners defines the term narrowly and lists four partners: Lovable, Manus, Replit and v0 by Vercel, with Replit able only to create new stores.
A vibe code partner is an independent company that uses AI to build an online storefront and connect it to Shopify.
The other builders in this article sit outside that list. None of the Shopify Help Center pages we read on October 15, 2026, from the vibe code partner list to the recommended dropshipping apps, names BuildYourStore.ai, ZipStore, CreateMyStore, PagePilot, AutoDS or Vitals as a vibe code partner, an official partner or a recommended builder. That does not make them unsafe; it means the checks Shopify documents for its own route are yours to do for these.
AI Dropshipping Store Builders: What the Free Store Includes
Key takeaway
Here is what the builders say the free store includes, in their own words, beside what to check before you build a business on it.
What the builders promise, and what to check
| What the builder says | Whose words | What to check before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
| A Shopify store provided for free, built with its AI store builder tool | BuildYourStore.ai | Free covers the build; the same site says you pay Shopify directly for the plan |
| 10 proven winning products loaded into the store | BuildYourStore.ai | Stock, supplier and shipping time for each product before you advertise it |
| A free .store domain, without buying one yourself | BuildYourStore.ai | How long the free term lasts and what renewal costs, before you print it on anything |
| Terms and conditions templates you can use or customize | BuildYourStore.ai | Every policy line against how you will actually ship and refund |
| AI-picked best-sellers, or AliExpress products imported by pasting a link | CreateMyStore | The supplier and delivery terms behind each product |
| Works for new Shopify stores only | CreateMyStore | An existing store needs a page builder or a theme instead |
| Vitals installed as part of store setup, with a 7-day free trial; a credit card is needed to start, with no charge when the store is created | CreateMyStore | Vitals' listing price after the trial, $29.99/month, plus usage fees from $10/month above ~$1,000/month in Vitals-attributed sales, and for Visitor Recordings volume |
| A landing page from any product URL (AliExpress, Shopify, Amazon, Shein) on any theme | PagePilot | Publishing to your store needs a paid plan |
Source: buildyourstore.ai, createmystore.ai and its Merchant Agreement, pagepilot.ai and PagePilot's App Store listing, read October 15, 2026. These are the vendors' claims, not verified features.
Across the three, the build is the part the builder does; the checks in the right-hand column stay yours. CreateMyStore's Merchant Agreement is explicit about one part of the package: by using the service you agree that Vitals will be installed as part of your store setup, with its features and data processing governed by the same agreement.
Shopify's advice for AI tools connected to a store is direct: “AI outputs can contain errors, so review any information or action that you ask the AI tool to take to confirm its accuracy.” It is written about connected AI tools, and the same check is worth running on product copy, prices and policies a builder generates for you.
What a "Free" AI Store Actually Costs
Key takeaway
The free part is the build. BuildYourStore.ai's own site says so in the next breath: “if you decide to continue using Shopify, you will need to pay for a Shopify plan directly with Shopify.” PagePilot's pricing page says the same about its side: “Shopify bills its own plan separately from PagePilot.”
Here is one store, worked through once. It starts on Shopify's introductory offer, a 3-day free trial and then $1 a month for 3 months on most plans, and then pays the Basic plan's standard $39/month, billed monthly. It adds one supplier app, AutoDS Starter 500 at $39.90/month on its App Store listing, and no builder-side app.
That stack costs $40.90 a month in months 1 to 3, $78.90 a month from month 4, and $832.80 over the first 12 months, at USD list prices read on October 15, 2026. Three things move it: a builder-side app you keep, an add-on such as AutoDS's auto-ordering, and a larger plan.
The calculator below opens on that example. Swap in the builder-side app and the supplier plan you would actually keep.
Estimate only, at list prices on the Shopify App Store, shopify.com/pricing and autods.com, read October 15, 2026. Trials counted in days are not subtracted. Not included: a domain after any free term, payment and transaction fees, ads, product cost, taxes on your bills, Vitals usage fees above its included volumes and annual billing. Shopify says trial length and pricing might vary by store location.
The Shopify plan is a separate bill
Key takeaway
Every route ends at the same bill. Shopify's free trial page says customers can buy only once you deactivate private mode or activate checkout by choosing a paid plan, and that the work done during the trial is kept when you do. If the trial runs out first:
If you don't select a monthly plan at the end of your free trial, then your store is paused until you choose a paid plan.
How long the trial lasts depends on how the store was made. Shopify says a store created with an AI tool or with a vibe code partner starts on a free trial of currently 4 months, as of October 2026, and its 4-month free trial guide covers that route.
None of the Shopify pages we read on October 15, 2026 says whether a store built by BuildYourStore.ai or CreateMyStore gets it; check Settings > Plan in your admin before you budget around a trial length, since Shopify also says trial length and pricing might vary by store location. Shopify adds that the duration of trials and any promotional pricing is determined by when the Shopify account is created and the free trial starts, so look there before counting on the $1 months.
The apps that bill you every month
Key takeaway
Here are the monthly list prices behind the calculator, with each app's trial and who bills it.
Monthly list prices behind the calculator
| What you pay for | Monthly list price | Trial or offer |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify plan (Basic, billed monthly) | $39/month | 3-day free trial, then $1/month for 3 months on most plans |
| AutoDS (supplier app) | Import 200 $26.90 · Starter 500 $39.90 · Advanced 1K $66.90 | 3-day trial: $0.99 on autods.com, "free" on the App Store listing; no free plan |
| AutoDS auto-ordering add-on | $9.90/month | Listed among add-ons; plan inclusion not stated |
| ZipStore (full-store builder app) | Starter $49.99 · Pro $89.99 · Max $199.99 | 7-day free trial |
| Vitals (installed by CreateMyStore) | $29.99/month | Free trial on the listing; CreateMyStore says 7 days; usage fees from $10/month above ~$1,000/month in Vitals-attributed sales, and for Visitor Recordings volume |
| PagePilot AI (page builder) | Free · Lite $39 · Scaler $59 | Free plan imports no products and cannot publish |
Source: shopify.com/pricing, each app's Shopify App Store listing, createmystore.ai for the Vitals trial length, and autods.com/pricing for the AutoDS trial and add-on, read October 15, 2026. USD per month, monthly billing; vendor prices change without notice.
AutoDS is a subscription by design: its Terms of Service say using the service requires a monthly subscription fee. The App Store listing offers no free plan, only a 3-day trial, which AutoDS's pricing page sells for $0.99 while the listing calls it free.
The same pricing page lists an auto-ordering system among its add-ons at $9.90/month, and does not say whether any plan already includes it.
PagePilot's free plan lets you build pages but not publish them; its paid plans on the App Store listing are Lite at $39/month and Scaler at $59/month, and its own pricing page shows a different set of plans, so confirm the price on the listing on the day you install.
Refunds, Trials and Cancelling
Key takeaway
Refund terms differ more than prices do, and they are easiest to read while nothing has been paid. Here is what each vendor's own terms said on October 15, 2026.
Refund and cancellation terms, by vendor
| Who | Refund terms, in their words | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| BuildYourStore.ai Terms | "No refunds will be issued under any circumstances." The Terms cover its products and services, including premium themes. | Its Terms describe a strict no-refund policy: treat any payment to it as final |
| CreateMyStore Terms of Use | "The fees you pay are non-refundable." Two sentences later, the Terms let you request a refund within a maximum of 30 days after the trial period ends if the services don't meet your expectations. | Read the exception before paying; Vitals is a separate app you uninstall in Settings > Apps |
| PagePilot Refund Policy | A refund "will be granted if no more than 14 days have passed from your last payment", and "any creation of pages or importing them into your store disqualifies you for a refund". | Pages stay after the subscription ends, but you can no longer edit them in the Shopify customizer |
| AutoDS Terms of Service | Monthly plans: refund requests within 24 hours of payment. Annual plans: within 7 days. Add-ons: non-refundable. Approved refunds may include fees of up to 15%. | Plans renew automatically unless you cancel the recurring payment on your personal settings page; the Terms add that cancellation may be subject to cancellation fees |
| Any app charge on your Shopify bill | Managed by the app developer, not Shopify | Uninstalling stops future billing cycles; to request a refund, contact the developer before uninstalling |
Source: each vendor's Terms or refund policy, linked in the first column, and Shopify's Help Center page on app charges, read October 15, 2026. Quoted terms are the vendors' own; we have not assessed how they apply where you live.
AutoDS's Terms go one step further: by registering, you agree not to request a chargeback or cash back from your card company for its fees. We don't assess whether that clause holds where you live; know that it is there before you pay. For any app charge that does appear on your Shopify bill, Shopify's page on app charges is clear about who decides:
Refunds for third-party app charges are managed by the app developer, not Shopify.
Uninstalling is not cancelling
Key takeaway
Shopify's page on uninstalling apps separates two kinds of billing. An app that charges through Shopify stops with the uninstall: future recurring charges are cancelled, though you might still be billed for the current cycle, because apps with subscription charges run on their own 30-day billing cycle. An app that charges you directly is a different matter:
Uninstalling the app from your Shopify admin doesn't cancel external charges.
To see which is which, open Settings > Billing. Shopify says View current charges lists pending app charges for your next invoice, charges already paid sit on past bills, and charges billed outside Shopify won't appear in either place. If a paid app's charge is in neither place, ask the developer how it bills you; a subscription billed outside Shopify has to be cancelled directly with the developer, in the app's billing settings or by contacting the developer.
How a Builder Gets Into Your Store
Key takeaway
How a builder gets in decides what it can do afterwards and what you have to undo when you stop using it. The three routes below cover the builders in this article and the official partners beside them.
An app with data access
Key takeaway
Apps such as ZipStore, PagePilot, AutoDS and Vitals are installed from the Shopify App Store, and each listing states the data the app needs to work on your store. On October 15, 2026, the ZipStore listing (card in the ratings section below) asked for:
- access to view your customer data and device and activity data such as geolocation and IP address;
- access to view the store owner's name, email address, phone number and physical address, and your store reports;
- access to edit your products and your orders;
- access to edit your Online Store and other data: locations, Online Store navigation and product publications on sales channels.
That is a wide grant for a tool whose job is building the store, and it stays in place until you uninstall the app. Our guide to what customer data a Shopify app can access explains what such permissions cover.
A store handed over with credentials
Key takeaway
BuildYourStore.ai's site says you can add as many products as you want “once you get the credentials for your Shopify store”. Whatever form the handover takes, check the result yourself: in your admin, Settings > Users shows who holds the Store owner role. Shopify's page on changing or transferring ownership says a store has one owner and only that owner can change or transfer ownership, which is why the role matters more than the login:
The store owner has complete access to every part of the Shopify admin.
If the store is part of an organization, Shopify says the organization owner also has complete access to it, so check who owns the organization too. If the owner role sits with someone else, settle that before the plan, the payment details and the domain go in your name.
Collaborator access and the partner claim
Key takeaway
A builder working as a Shopify Partner can request collaborator access instead. You review those requests in the Users section of your admin by filtering for the Requests status, and Shopify sets two limits: you can't transfer store ownership to a collaborator, and a collaborator who hasn't logged in within 90 days loses access automatically.
A store that one of Shopify's official partners creates reaches you through a claim. On Shopify's page on setting up a store created with AI, a store that a vibe code partner created keeps the partner's app installed after you claim it, and the partner platform can continue to make changes to your store. Whichever route a builder used, list its access before you rely on the store, and remove it when the work is done.
What the App Store Ratings Say
Key takeaway
The four apps this article meets around these builders show very different track records on the Shopify App Store. The cards give each listing's price and rating as we read them on October 15, 2026.

A rating is not a simple average. Shopify's page on finding and choosing apps says overall ratings are weighted averages that prioritize the most timely and relevant reviews. So the count matters as much as the stars: 20 reviews move faster than 2,993.
The low reviews say the most. On the ZipStore listing, one reviewer in September 2025 asked why the app says free when the end of setup shows a 3-day trial, and another in April 2026 wrote that the builder provided all out-of-stock items. Each is one merchant's account, not a pattern, and each is worth knowing before you install.
Shopify's guidance on dropshipping apps adds a caution of its own:
Verify the authenticity of app reviews and ratings to avoid being misled by fake feedback.
Shopify's App Store requirements also say a listing should be truthful and accurate. That is a rule for developers, not a guarantee to you; our checklist for evaluating an app before you install it covers what to read beyond the stars.
The Risks That Stay With You
Key takeaway
Three kinds of risk stay with you after the build, whichever builder you used: the products, the rules you publish, and the way out.
Products and suppliers
Key takeaway
A builder can fill a store with products in minutes, but each one still needs a supplier who has it in stock and can ship it on the terms your store promises. Shopify's advice on choosing suppliers gives one quick test for the supplier itself:
Most legitimate suppliers don't charge their customers monthly fees to do business with them.
Keep the two apart: AutoDS is software that charges a subscription, not a supplier, and the test does not make it suspect. It applies when a supplier asks you for a monthly fee to sell its products. Our supplier vetting checklist covers the checks to run on each one.
On October 15, 2026, the Shopify Help Center's page of recommended dropshipping apps named four: Shopify Collective, Dropcommerce, Dropship: EU & US and Syncee. AutoDS and the builders in this article were not on it, and Shopify says the list isn't exhaustive, so absence is not a verdict either way.
If you are choosing the supplier app rather than accepting the builder's, compare Shopify Collective with apps such as AutoDS on margin, catalog and cost first.
Policies, taxes and customs
Key takeaway
BuildYourStore.ai says its stores come with terms and conditions templates you can use or customize. Shopify's page on store policies holds even its own automated templates to a plain standard: they are for information only, aren't legal advice and don't guarantee compliance. You manage them in Settings > Policies, and the responsibility does not move:
You're responsible for the accuracy of your published policies and for following them.
What should those policies say for a store whose supplier ships the goods? Our dropshipping setup guide walks through the policies a dropshipping store needs, from shipping times your supplier can keep to the refund rules you will honour.
Selling abroad adds a layer. Shopify's dropshipping overview says that if you sell to customers in other countries with dropshipping, you must be aware of the tax and customs obligations that apply to cross-border sales.
Ownership and the way out
Key takeaway
Leaving a builder or one of its apps is a sequence, and the order matters because some of it can't be undone:
- Export what you need first. Shopify says some apps store data that you can't recover after uninstalling.
- Note how the app bills you. If a paid app's charge is neither under current charges nor on a past bill in Settings > Billing, ask its developer whether it bills you outside Shopify.
- Ask about extra uninstall steps and any refund. Shopify says some apps add code to your theme that isn't automatically removed when you uninstall the app, and tells you to check the app's listing or contact its developer before uninstalling. If you want to request a refund, it says to contact the app developer before uninstalling as well.
- Uninstall it in Settings > Apps. Use the app's menu and choose Uninstall.
- Cancel any external subscription with the developer; for AutoDS, that is the recurring payment on your personal settings page.
Page builders leave their work behind. PagePilot says pages stay in your store once the subscription is inactive, but you can no longer edit them in the Shopify customizer, so decide before cancelling whether you will rebuild them in your theme.
When Shopify's Own Route Fits Better
Key takeaway
If you already build in Lovable, Manus, Replit or v0, the official route has written rules: Shopify billing and the partner platform's billing are separate, a new store starts with its storefront password protected so customers can't buy yet, and the trial runs from the claim. The split of support is the part to know before you start. Our guide to building a Shopify store with an AI partner compares the four partners in full.
Shopify Support can't access or troubleshoot a partner's builder, prompts, hosting, or subscription.
If you would rather edit a theme yourself, the AI is already in your admin. Shopify's AI-powered tools pages say some tools are part of Shopify, such as Sidekick and other AI features in your Shopify admin, so there is no builder subscription to keep. Shopify can also generate a free personalized theme from a description of your business. For an existing store, that works in the Shopify app or a mobile browser, and with an English storefront it's available only during the free trial or on the Basic, Grow or Advanced plan. Our review of Shopify's built-in AI shows where it can be trusted and where it needs editing.
If you work in ChatGPT or Claude, Shopify offers official integrations rather than an App Store app. Its page on authorizing AI tools says those integrations aren't on the Shopify App Store, and tells merchants to use the official integration rather than create an API access token or build their own. Our guide to the ChatGPT and Claude connectors covers what they can and can't change.
Before You Install, Before You Pay, Before You Leave
Key takeaway
The checklist puts the article in the order you will meet it. Steps one and two come before any install or payment, step three before you add a plan, and step seven whenever you drop an app, not only when you leave the builder for good.
AI Store Builder ChecksTick each step off from first install to the day you remove an app.
AI Store Builder Checks
Tick each step off from first install to the day you remove an app.
Check the developer and the data the app asks to access on its Shopify App Store listing.
Before you tick this off
- Noted who the developer is and what other apps they publish
- Read the list of data the app needs access to
- Decided the access matches what you want the app to do
Find the builder's and each app's refund rules and cancellation steps while nothing is paid yet.
Before you tick this off
- Read the builder's Terms on refunds
- Read the refund window of every paid app in the stack
- Noted where each subscription is cancelled
In Settings > Users, check who holds the Store owner role before you pay for a plan or apps.
Before you tick this off
- Your account holds the Store owner role
- Every collaborator or user listed is someone you expect
Add up the Shopify plan and every app you will keep after the trials, month by month.
Before you tick this off
- Priced the months on the promotional rate and the months after
- Included each app you will keep after its trial
- Kept a budget line for the domain once any free term ends
Rewrite the policies to match how you ship and refund, and confirm stock and suppliers for every product.
Before you tick this off
- Refund, shipping and terms of service pages describe your real practice
- Every imported product has a supplier with stock
- You know the tax and customs rules for the countries you ship to
In Settings > Billing, check which app charges come through your Shopify bill; charges an app bills outside Shopify won't appear there.
Before you tick this off
- Found each app's charge under current charges or past bills
- Listed the apps that bill you outside Shopify
Export what you need, ask the developer about extra uninstall steps and any refund, uninstall the app, then cancel any external subscription.
Before you tick this off
- Exported data you can't recover after uninstalling
- Before uninstalling, checked the listing or asked the developer about extra uninstall steps and any refund
- Uninstalled the app in Settings > Apps
- Cancelled subscriptions billed outside Shopify with the developer
The Bottom Line
Key takeaway
None of these builders is a scam by default or a shortcut by default. The build is the cheap part; the bills, the supplier and the exit are where the decision really sits.
