Why is Shopify Analytics not updating?

Published ·
At a glance
Short answer
Shopify's Analytics overview is current to about 1 minute when opened; search reports lag up to 72 hours; an alert icon flags data disruptions.
Customer reports
May not show the past 12 hours of activity; New vs returning customer is the exception
Sell-through rate report
About two days behind; closer to three in early time zones such as UTC+14
No alert icon here
Summary dashboards at the top of the Orders and Products pages
Warning status
Data abnormally delayed for over 30 minutes, or a non-business-critical metric is impacted

How do you get newer data on the overview dashboard?

If today's sales look frozen on an open Analytics page, the page isn't updating itself. Shopify calls the dashboard up to date within about 1 minute when you open it. For newer data, reopen it, refresh the browser, or turn on auto-refresh.

In Shopify adminOpen in your store
  1. Analytics
  2. ⋯
  3. Turn on auto-refresh
Auto-refresh sits behind the three-dot menu beside Try targets, at the top of the Analytics page.

Auto-refresh runs every 60 seconds, only when your date range includes today. If it's on and nothing moves, include today in the range.

How current is each Shopify report?

Reopening or refreshing a sales, finance or retail sales report shows newer data; if a report's gap fits its documented delay below, that lag is by design: wait it out.

Where you lookHow current Shopify says it is
Analytics overview, sales and finance reportsCurrent to about 1 minute when opened
Retail sales reports1 to 5 minutes
Customer reports (except New vs returning)May miss the past 12 hours
Product recommendation reportsMay miss the past 24 hours
The four search reportsUp to 72 hours behind
Products by sell-through rateAbout two days behind; closer to three in early time zones such as UTC+14

Shopify Help Center report pages, read October 27, 2026.

If Live View shows “There's a delay, but your live data will appear soon,” high processing volumes are delaying the data; the delay typically resolves within 1–2 hours.

How does Shopify flag delayed data?

When admin data is temporarily incomplete or delayed, Shopify shows an alert icon on affected reports and metrics, including overview cards and Shopify Home. Hover over or tap the icon for details. Its status:

  • Information: a metric's definition changed, or lost data couldn't be recovered.
  • Warning: data abnormally delayed for over 30 minutes, or a non-business-critical metric is impacted.
  • Critical: a major outage, or a business-critical metric is impacted.

Once the disruption resolves and the data is restored, the icon disappears; until then, be cautious about decisions based on the affected numbers.

In-context summary dashboards lack alert icons
The summary dashboards atop the Orders and Products pages don't display disruption icons; affected overview cards and reports do.
