The Month-end inventory value report shows Total inventory value: each variant's cost per item multiplied by its ending quantity, with the store total in the Summary row. ABC product analysis also has a Total value (cost) column.

What does Month-end inventory value count?

Entering Cost per item is optional, and Shopify defines the report this way:

Similar to the month-end inventory snapshot, the Month-end inventory value report totals the current amount of On hand inventory on products with a cost per item value assigned at the time of sale.

Fill in Cost per item on each stocked variant.

Cost per item sits at the bottom of the product's Price card, under Charge tax.
  • Ending quantity is trackable stock at the end of the period's last day, and it can be negative.
  • Since October 1, 2026, inventory reports count On hand instead of Available, so Committed and Unavailable units now add to the total. Earlier months keep their Available figures.
  • Only variants adjusted or ordered in the last three years appear, and inventory metrics go back only to October 1, 2023.

Which Shopify plans include it, and when do you need an app?

No plan or report page we read in October 2026 (inventory reports, Analytics overview, plan features) limits this report to a plan. Their wording differs:

  • Starter, Lite, Grow and Plus name inventory reports.
  • Basic includes “access to all reports”.
  • Advanced contains “all the features of the Basic plan and the Grow plan”.

Each variant has one static Cost per item that stays fixed when you receive a purchase order or transfer.

For Shopify's own reports, the Help Center pages we read in October 2026 (reports, products, inventory) describe no FIFO, LIFO or weighted-average valuation method; average unit costs there are “unique to Stocky”.

For weighted-average costing or landed cost allocation, Shopify points you to a third-party inventory app.
