How do you limit a discount to a single country?

Any code-based or automatic discount qualifies: open the discount, select Markets under Eligibility, choose the markets, then click Add, per Shopify's discount guide.

The list offers Region, B2B company location and Retail location markets. For one country, pick a region market holding only it, which Shopify calls a single-country market.

If the country sits in a multi-country market, create a market holding only it: a Canada market inside North America becomes a submarket of it. Check before launch that it shows as its own choice in the discount's market list: none of the pages we read on September 24, 2026 — Shopify's discount settings, market types and submarkets guides — says whether it does.

What limits does a market discount have?

Shopify's changelog added discounts by market to the admin on May 7, 2026, with one condition:

Check which Markets version your store runs before planning the promo.

• Markets or segments, not both. Eligibility types are mutually exclusive: one discount targets markets or customer segments.
• No channel markets. Discounts can't be assigned to specific channel markets.
• One rate everywhere. A 20% discount takes 20% off in every market and currency; fixed-amount discounts are created only in the store's default currency.

Is there another way to target one country?

For free shipping, yes: its discount form keeps a Countries section alongside the Markets option. None of the Help Center pages on discount codes, discount types and the discount codes FAQ that we read on September 24, 2026 documents a country field outside Markets for any other discount.
