On October 26, 2026 we read the Shopify Balance help and POS staff pages, shopify.com's Balance and POS pages, and both changelog feeds: none describes calculating pay, payroll taxes or paying employees as a Shopify feature. The free Pay Stub Generator makes pay stubs; it doesn't pay anyone.

Three third-party App Store listings offered payroll on October 26, 2026 — a snapshot, not a full list. If staff clock in on POS, the first two add the time clock our retail guide lists among jobs POS leaves to apps; Gusto's listing doesn't mention POS.

• Easyteam POS Time Clock In clocks staff in from POS, then runs payroll through Easyteam Payroll, QBO, Gusto, ADP or others; its payroll add-on is $45/mo + $6 per employee, US and Canada only.
• Homebase Time Clock works with Shopify POS, Gusto and ADP Run; its payroll option is $39 per month, $6 per paid employee.
• Gusto ‑ Payroll & HR lists its Simple plan at $49 / month plus $6 per employee per month, which Gusto may bill separately from your Shopify invoice.

What can Shopify Balance do with payroll money?

Shopify Balance is only for merchants with a residential address in the United States or Puerto Rico, and its help names payroll as an example, not a feature:

• A separate account: you can create up to 5 additional Shopify Balance accounts; Shopify's example is one for payroll.
• Automatic set-asides: auto-transfer rules can allocate funds from each payout to a separate Balance account for payroll.
• Outgoing transfers: Balance sends money to a US recipient by bank transfer or U.S. domestic wire — a transfer, not a pay run: no Balance page we read calculates pay or payroll taxes.
